In commemoration of National Aviation Week, we are reflecting on our history of constructing airports, hangars, and other flight facilities!

Dawson has a long history building and celebrating air travel across the PNW and SE Alaska. From Alaska Seaplanes and RED Leasing in Juneau, to terminal work in Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka and Bellingham, we’ve built hangars, terminals, covered walkways, ferry facilities and other airport infrastructure along the way.

Our crews are currently constructing terminal improvements in Sitka and a major terminal expansion in Ketchikan.

Aviation has been a solid part of the story of Dawson Construction and we couldn't be more proud of the work that our crews have achieved over the past 40 years.

24 new homes supporting stability and independence for Lummi community members.

On Friday, we joined our longtime partners at Lummi Nation to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony at Crowberry Mini Homes, Maechen Aleleng.

The 24 homes give residents a place of their own as they work toward stability. Each home is 12 by 24 feet and includes a kitchenette, full bathroom, living space, and its own front door. The accessible units are slightly wider and longer, with the same layout inside.

Outside, a landscaped courtyard and covered community pavilion give residents space to gather and connect.

After months of watching Crowberry take shape, it was meaningful to stand in the courtyard and hear Lummi Nation elders and leaders speak about what these homes will mean for their community.

Celebrating a successful project with an incredible team!

Last year, 1,782 Skagit County households applied for housing help.

More than half of local renters pay more than they can afford. Rent has climbed 68 percent in the last decade. Vacancy is under 1 percent, the lowest in Washington. The county needs 4,474 more homes at prices people can pay.

When housing is out of reach, it's harder for people to build stability, stay close to family, and put down roots in the community they call home. This is why affordable and accessible housing matters so much to us.

We're proud to partner with Volunteers of America Western Washington on Ballington Flats in Burlington: 42 new homes for low-income households, with units designated for veterans. The project includes six buildings, a community room, and a play area.

These are permanent homes, with leases residents can renew year after year. They're built to give people a stable place to call home.

Our crews are in the final stretch. We’ll be in Burlington later this week for the ribbon cutting alongside the teams who helped bring this project to life. Check back Thursday for photos from the celebration and a better look at the finished project!

Another milestone completed at our Ketchikan Airport Terminal Expansion project! ✈️

This week, fresh pavement went down beneath the new steel canopy, siding continued wrapping the building, and our crews kept making steady progress inside by hanging ceilings and installing flooring room by room. The new windows already offer incredible views across Tongass Narrows!

For more than 50 years, every welcome home, every goodbye, every family visit, and every trip off the island has passed through this terminal. As Ketchikan has grown, so has the need for an airport that better serves the community. This expansion will nearly double the terminal's size, creating more space and a smoother experience for the locals who rely on it every day and seasonal tourists alike.

Over the next few months, the features people will notice most will begin coming together: a larger TSA checkpoint, an elevator, a new jet bridge, and a baggage claim with room for everything from suitcases to Southeast Alaska's famous fish boxes—and all the welcome-home hugs that come with them.

Years from now, our Ketchikan crew will still walk through this terminal with their families, greet loved ones returning home, and catch flights of their own. They'll always know they helped build one of the most important places in their community.

Exciting progress on our Ketchikan Airport project!

The roof is on at Bellis Fair Senior Housing—a major milestone for a project that will soon provide 64 new homes for Bellingham seniors.

Built alongside our longtime partner, Opportunity Council, this project is about creating a place where people can age with dignity, stability, and a sense of community. Designed for adults ages 62 and older, this phase will include private, sensory-friendly apartments, shared wellness spaces, and homes that can accommodate a live-in caregiver or roommate—creating a supportive environment where residents can continue living independently.

With the building now fully dried in, work is moving quickly. HVAC equipment has been lifted into place, electricians are pulling wire on the fourth floor, windows are installed, exterior weatherproofing is nearing completion, door frames are going in, and the first section of the parking lot has been paved.

We recently completed the neighboring Bellis Fair Family Housing and Early Learning Center. Seeing these projects come together on the same block is a powerful reminder of what community investment can look like: creating homes for families, opportunities for young children, and now housing for seniors, all in one neighborhood.
Every milestone brings us one step closer to welcoming residents home!

One of the highlights of our Dawson Internship Program each summer is our Executive Q&A session.

This week, our interns had the opportunity to sit down with our President, CFO, and Director of Human Resources for an open conversation about construction, leadership, career growth, and the lessons they’ve learned throughout their careers.

The questions sparked thoughtful discussions about decision-making, overcoming challenges, building relationships, and what it takes to grow in this industry. These are the kinds of conversations that leave a lasting impact because they offer perspectives that can’t be found in a textbook.

As our interns prepare to head back to college, one piece of advice rose above the rest: stay curious and keep asking questions. The people who continue to learn, seek different perspectives, and ask “why?” are the ones who continue to grow.
