We’ve been renovating the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cardiovascular Clinic in Bellingham one section at a time, keeping the clinic open so patients could continue coming in for their heart care throughout construction.

The latest phase opened last week, bringing new check-in counters, a stacked stone feature wall, updated exam rooms and a refreshed waiting room.

It’s a well-deserved upgrade for the only community hospital in Whatcom County, where so many of our neighbors go for care.

Check out what the Dawson team has been up to at Setting Sun Circle!

Inside the old Mindport space downtown Bellingham, our team cut a 37-foot opening through a brick wall from 1895, turning two old buildings into one big space. To pull it off, the crew held the brick up with steel and poured almost 30 yards of concrete into the new frame that now carries the wall.

To create flow from room to room, we're cutting seven doorways through the old brick. As pictured, there are steel plates holding up the brick above each doorway! The juxtaposition of steel and brick brings this historic building into its new era.

Coast Salish stories will play across a 50-foot screen that wraps halfway around a huge immersive theater when it opens in 2027. We can't wait to show you the gallery and healing garden when they're open to the public!

The new post tensioned concrete deck is going in on the Sayles and Gorge Street viaduct in Ketchikan!

Ketchikan didn't give us many dry days for the pour, so our crew built a tarp cover over the whole bridge and kept going right through the rain, with the pump truck reaching up from the street below.

The viaduct is the raised street just west of downtown that the neighbors along Sayles and Gorge use to get home. The old wooden trestle came out this spring, and a new concrete deck on a steel frame is taking its place, along with a new staircase down to Water Street. This project will provide the neighbors a safe, solid way home for years to come.

The new passenger boarding bridge is in at the Ketchikan Airport Terminal Expansion!

It showed up on trucks last month wrapped in yellow, and since then it's been lifted into place, hooked up to power and tested.

Inside, the beautiful wood ceilings are up and the rooftop units are in place. This week our crew carried the first furniture up to the new second floor waiting area, the first floor lights started coming on, and the elevator is going in on both floors.

Next up: the final custom fascia panels on the outside, the controls that run the building, wood wall panels and base trim, interior glass, finish hardware, and the final tie-in of the existing terminal to the new one.

The air taxi side is coming together too. Right now the big airlines and the small charter planes share the same lobby, and people arriving and leaving cross paths all over the building. The new terminal gives air taxi passengers their own ticket counter and waiting area, and their baggage handling equipment is going in now.

We are loving seeing this project come together and we can't wait to share the terminal when it's complete.

At Western Washington University, we're wrapping up the last of seven buildings in a multi-year housing renovation.

Join Travis McSorley, one of our superintendents, as he walks through what our crew has done here, from replacing and repainting the old siding to installing new metal bridges, stairs, railings, and lights along the walkways.

A lot of these paths run between the buildings and through the woods, so having solid walkways and better lighting makes a real difference when students are heading home after dark. As Travis put it, "I'm under a light and everybody can see me. I'm good."

It's a great update to a part of campus that's been here since 1970!

Construction has one of the highest su***de rates of any industry.

Construction work can mean long days, hard work, travel between jobsites, and extended time away from friends and family. There can also be pressure to “just tough it out” when things get hard.

Today is the first day of this year’s Construction Su***de Prevention Week. This week gives us a chance to step back and check on our friends, coworkers and family.

It can be as simple as checking in with the person you’ve been working beside all day, calling someone who’s working remote, or asking a friend if they’re doing alright.

If someone doesn’t seem like themselves, ask them about it.

How do you renovate a 115-year-old cathedral? Very carefully.

Currently we are doing an extensive renovation on the Co-Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary to make sure it remains a place where people can gather for generations to come.

Crews have completed demolition, excavation, and structural shoring and are now forming and pouring new concrete foundations. The project also includes a new building addition, elevator and ADA entrance, upgraded mechanical and electrical systems, and a new roof structure.

In commemoration of National Aviation Week, we are reflecting on our history of constructing airports, hangars, and other flight facilities!

Dawson has a long history building and celebrating air travel across the PNW and SE Alaska. From Alaska Seaplanes and RED Leasing in Juneau, to terminal work in Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka and Bellingham, we’ve built hangars, terminals, covered walkways, ferry facilities and other airport infrastructure along the way.

Our crews are currently constructing terminal improvements in Sitka and a major terminal expansion in Ketchikan.

Aviation has been a solid part of the story of Dawson Construction and we couldn't be more proud of the work that our crews have achieved over the past 40 years.
