✨This week, our Beyond The Desk series spotlights our General Superintendent, Scott Bowman! For Scott, giving back means helping the next generation discover the spirit of aviation. 🛩️

As an instrument-rated private pilot for the past 10 years, Scott has spent the last 5 years volunteering with the EAA Young Eagles Program through their local Compton Chapter, helping youth ages 8–17 experience their first free airplane ride.

His goal? Introduce kids in underserved communities to aviation, spark their curiosity + inspire the next generation of aspiring pilots.

What happens beneath a project is just as important as what you see above it.👀For one of our current projects, Howard CDM is utilizing micropiles as a deep foundation solution to overcome challenging subsurface conditions while minimizing disturbance to the surrounding environment.

Micropiles are small-diameter, steel-cased, drilled and grouted piles designed to transfer structural loads deep into the ground. For this project, we’re using approximately 8-inch-wide steel casing with low-overhead drilling, making them an effective solution where traditional foundation systems may not be practical. Their low-vibration and low-noise installation is especially valuable when working near existing or sensitive structures. Micropiles can also help stabilize challenging soils by transferring loads through weaker layers into stronger material deeper below the surface.

Every project brings unique challenges beneath the surface, and choosing the right foundation system is essential to building safely, efficiently, and for the long term. At Howard CDM, we’re always looking for the right construction approach to bring complex projects to life. Strong projects start with strong foundations. We are proud to be working alongside Landmark PM on this project, collaborating closely to navigate complex site conditions and keep the work moving forward.

We’re proud to celebrate the transformation of the historic Starlight Theatre in Lincoln Heights, originally built in 1912, into a new Stumptown Coffee Roasters location.☕️

One of the most unique aspects of the project is how much of the original theater we were able to preserve. The exposed brick walls and wood ceiling remain central features, allowing the building’s history to shine through while giving the space an entirely new purpose.

A true example of adaptive reuse done right. Congratulations to the entire project team and partners on this beautiful accomplishment!

Beyond the Desk Series ✈️

At Howard CDM, we know our team members are building more than projects. They’re also building incredible life experiences.
This week, we’re featuring Kim, whose love of travel has taken her to 41 countries around the world. Her goal is to keep the number of countries she has visited equal to her age, giving her a new reason to continue exploring every year.

Kim has also visited 44 of the 50 U.S. states, leaving just six more to experience. One of her most meaningful recent adventures was traveling to Norway with her father to see the breathtaking Northern Lights, a memory they’ll always share.

Something exciting is taking shape... 👀

Behind these walls, an incredible transformation is underway.

What was once an existing restaurant space is being reimagined into an elevated dining destination. Every phase of construction is bringing the vision to life, from intricate framing to the architectural details that will define the finished space.

Our team is working closely with the architect and our skilled trade partners to bring a creative vision to reality, featuring beautifully colonial crafted curved walls, arches, and a warm palette of natural plaster finishes. Each detail is thoughtfully planned and carefully executed to honor the client’s culture, heritage, and design intent. It’s the beginning of a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

Our HCDM team came together at SteelCraft Bellflower for our annual Summer Kick-Off to celebrate the season with great food, laughs, and even a little hair tinsel.
