Tate has been phenomenal to work with! His work ethic and positive attitude make him an absolute asset. We are glad he chose to do his work-based learning with us! โก๏ธ๐คโก๏ธ
In Tate's words: "The most important skill needed to be an electrician is listening. You have to know what your boss and your customer want, that way you make sure you get your job done right. You also need to be good at memorizing (or making notes) to make sure that once boxes and wires are covered up in walls, you can connect them properly. You need to be able to read and write simple prints. Math also is necessary for computing voltage, amperage, and resistance."
"The skills I learned in my high school classes can be applied to my job in a variety of different ways. In shop class, I learned the basics of carpentry, electricity, and metal fabrication. This all comes very useful in the Electrical industry because you are doing hands-on work developing infrastructure in homes and businesses that allows people to do whatever they want to do. Another skill that comes in handy in the workforce is critical thinking and listening. You have to be able to listen to what the problems are, and think about the most practical solution."
"I think that common skills you need to have a good job are honesty, integrity, and grit. People donโt want to hire anyone that they canโt trust. You should always be able to be trusted by your employer. You should also be honest, so that they donโt have to worry about abuse of time and company resources. A third skill every good employee should have is grit, which I relate to work ethic. There will be times where you donโt want to do the job at hand. Sometimes you wonโt even want to go to work at all. These are the times where you need to motivate yourself to do the best job possible."
