Electrical Wiring Remediation Completed to Meet Current Code Requirements

During our inspection, we found previously installed wiring that required significant correction. Individual THHN/THWN-2 conductors were routed without proper mechanical protection, wall penetrations lacked protected transitions, and flexible conduit was missing the required end fitting.

The old metal junction box contained tangled wiring, poorly organized connections, and limited access for safe inspection and future maintenance. This was more than a cosmetic issue—it required a complete correction of the wiring methods.

Our team rebuilt the affected sections, protected the conductors at wall penetrations, installed proper conduit transitions and fittings, organized the connections, and installed a new electrical panel. The wiring was neatly routed, live components were enclosed, and the system was prepared for safe operation, maintenance, and inspection.

We do more than replace electrical parts. We correct unsafe installation methods and bring electrical systems into alignment with applicable electrical code requirements, with attention to every connection, pathway, and point of protection.

Took the popcorn off this ceiling, patched it, skim-coated it smooth, and painted it. Then put in recessed can lights so the room isn’t lit from one fixture in the middle.
Ceiling is clean now. Room looks brighter.

Just wrapped up a lighting project in Bellevue.
Installed recessed LED can lights, mounted a ceiling fan, wired a chandelier, and added a dimmer switch. We also patched the old ceiling fixture holes so the finished ceiling looks clean—not like something was removed.
The lighting is now even throughout the room, without a few overly bright spots and dark corners. The ceiling fan provides real airflow, and the chandelier became the main focal point of the space.

Commercial Electrical Distribution
We’re wrapping up the electrical distribution work on this commercial project. The scope includes new panelboards, feeders, branch-circuit wiring, and clean, labeled terminations.
We also planned capacity for future loads, so future expansion can be handled without reopening finished areas or rebuilding the distribution work.

A dangerous “shortcut” that can cost a life

Recently on a project, I came across something many people underestimate — what’s called a “bootleg ground.”

What is it?
In older wiring (often knob-and-tube or systems without a ground), someone connects the neutral wire to the ground terminal at the outlet. This is usually done to make a tester show “correct wiring.”

But in reality — it’s unsafe and misleading.

Why this is dangerous:

• The neutral is a current-carrying conductor
It is NOT a safe ground. It carries electricity during normal operation.

• If the neutral fails
The metal parts of appliances (fridge, washer, tools) can become energized with 120V.
Touch it — and you can get shocked.

• Breakers may not trip properly
There’s no true path for fault current → higher risk of overheating and fire.

• False sense of safety
A basic outlet tester may show “Correct,” while the system is actually unsafe.

Real-world cases:

There have been documented incidents where people were shocked due to this exact setup.
In one OSHA investigation, a person was fatally electrocuted while using a portable light — improper grounding was part of the cause.

What the electrical code says:

Neutral and ground can only be bonded at the main service panel.
They must never be connected together at outlets or along the circuit.

If there is no ground, the correct solutions are:

• Install GFCI protection
• Label outlets “No Equipment Ground”
• Or fully upgrade the wiring

Final thought:

This is not a “quick fix” — it’s a hidden hazard.
It can lead to serious injury or fire.
