New Pump vs. an Older Pump The Difference Is More Than Just Age
Here’s a great side-by-side example of the difference between an older Goulds well pump and a new A.Y. McDonald well pump.
At first glance, they may look similar and may be in the same horsepower range, but there are important differences in the motor design and overall construction.
One thing that stands out is the longer motor design on the new A.Y. McDonald pump. A longer motor provides additional surface area, which can help the motor transfer and dissipate heat more effectively when operating in the well.
🌡️ Why does motor heat matter?
A submersible pump motor is cooled by the water flowing around it. Keeping operating temperatures under control can be important for motor efficiency, insulation life, and long term reliability. The motor itself is only one part of the equation proper pump sizing, water flow, voltage, amperage, installation, and operating conditions all play a role.
This is why at Bedrock Well Pump & Mechanical, we don’t believe in simply throwing a pump in the hole and calling it a day. We look at the entire system and make sure the pump and motor are properly suited for the application.
🔧 New technology. Better motor design. Proper installation.
That combination can make a big difference when you’re depending on your well for your home’s water supply.
