New Pump vs. an Older Pump The Difference Is More Than Just Age

Here’s a great side-by-side example of the difference between an older Goulds well pump and a new A.Y. McDonald well pump.

At first glance, they may look similar and may be in the same horsepower range, but there are important differences in the motor design and overall construction.

One thing that stands out is the longer motor design on the new A.Y. McDonald pump. A longer motor provides additional surface area, which can help the motor transfer and dissipate heat more effectively when operating in the well.

A submersible pump motor is cooled by the water flowing around it. Keeping operating temperatures under control can be important for motor efficiency, insulation life, and long term reliability. The motor itself is only one part of the equation proper pump sizing, water flow, voltage, amperage, installation, and operating conditions all play a role.

We replaced the existing pressure tank and completed the necessary plumbing and pressure control connections to ensure the system was properly installed and ready to perform.

🚨 WE HAVEN’T DISAPPEARED WE’VE JUST BEEN BUSY! 🚨

We know we haven’t posted much over the past few weeks, but there’s a good reason for it we’ve been extremely busy handling no-water calls and getting our customers back up and running! 💧🔧
another emergency well issue in Bedford, VA. The customer had a failed submersible well pump and no water, so we got on site, pulled the old pump, installed a new one, and got the water system back in service.

🐭 Sometimes the simplest fix is also the nastiest. 🤢

This Bedford, VA homeowner lost water, and after diagnosing the system we found the culprit a mouse had built a nest inside the well cap and chewed through the electrical connections. Rodents can cause major problems in well systems by damaging wiring and creating an unsanitary environment around the wellhead.

After removing the nest and repairing the damaged wiring, we didn’t stop there. Because the well had been contaminated by the rodent activity, we shock chlorinated the entire well and plumbing system, thoroughly flushed the system, and then collected a bacteriological water sample for testing to verify the water was safe and clean before considering the job complete.
