The Lawrence County Solid Waste District is located in Bedford, IN and serves as the recycling facility and provider for all Lawrence County residents. At our facility you can recycle:

- Aluminum cans, such as beverage cans, aluminum foil, pie pans, etc. This DOES NOT include aluminum products such as chairs, siding, etc.

-Metal cans, including rinsed food cans. NO clothes hangers, skillets, ut

ensils, pans, etc.

-Clear and brown glass beverage and food containers. NO lids, window glass, ceramics, light bulbs or cookware.

-Newspapers (dry only).

-Magazines and slick newspaper inserts only. NO hard or soft cover books, junk mail, office paper, or telephone books.

-Plastic, including #1 and #2 jugs and bottles only- look on the bottom of the container for the number. Rinsed milk and water jugs, soap bottles, and detergent bottles. NO lids, oil jugs, antifreeze jugs, party trays, styrofoam, egg cartons, clear plastic coverings and wrappings, plastic utensils or shopping bags.

-Cardboard, such as cereal boxes, dog and cat food bags, brown paper grocery bags, and brown kraft envelopes. Please remove any styrofoam liners.

-Batteries (D, C, A, AA, AAA, camera batteries, etc.) Corroded, leaking or otherwise damaged batteries should be securely sealed in a plastic bag.

-Paint, including only oil based paint. Latex paint is a water based non-hazardous liquid that will solidify when lids are removed from containers and the paint is allowed to dry out. Once dry, it can be disposed of in regular trash. If latex or oil based paint is usable, it can be given to the Paint Swap.

-Mercury containing devices such as thermometers with 'silver bulbs', non-electric thermostats, clothes irons with automatic or tilt shut-off, curling irons with automatic shut-off, fluorescent bulbs, mercury switches and relays found in some chest freezers, sump pumps, clothes washers and electric space heaters, mercury thermostat probes found in some gas ranges, ovens, clothes dryers, water heaters, furnaces and space heaters.

-Other, including anti-freeze, stains, pesticides, oil filters, solvents, aerosols and acids.
