Brian literally intercepted the electrician on site and negotiated a healthier home wiring scenario for the client.

What followed was a real-time redesign of what’s “standard” - exploring hardwiring options and healthier electrical approaches instead of default installs.

This is what happens when health is part of the brief from the beginning: even the wiring gets rethought.

At our Scottsdale project, Brian brought Aeroseal Arizona to perform a blower door test to measure how this 8,500 sq ft home actually performs—not how it looks like it performs.

What’s a Blower Door Test?

A calibrated fan is installed in the doorway to pressurize/depressurize the home, revealing exactly where air is leaking through the building envelope.

Why it matters:
• Identifies hidden air leaks + inefficiencies
• Impacts energy use, moisture, and durability
• Determines ventilation strategy + IAQ needs
• Guides proper HVAC + ERV design

The result?

With multiple fireplaces, large openings, and scale—this home performed better than expected.

But performance isn’t perfection.
So we brought in the team to further seal the envelope, optimize airflow, and prepare for ERVs and advanced filtration—because airtight + controlled ventilation = healthier indoor air. Zack will bring the indoor air to perform better than the air outdoors!

This is building science.

Scottsdale Project: Investigation Day 🔍

Healthy homes are built on data.

Brian brought in Zack Pelzel of for a full mechanical and air-quality assessment following blower door testing.

What was on the agenda:
✔️ Mapping all ductwork and airflow pathways
✔️ Evaluating 6 HVAC systems located in the attic
✔️ Identifying inefficiencies, leakage points, and pressure imbalances
✔️ Assessing fresh air strategies with ERV integration
✔️ Building a custom whole-home air filtration plan

Most homes have HVAC systems - but few have systems designed to work together for health, efficiency, and clean air.

Without proper planning, even luxury homes can suffer from:

• Poor filtration
• Stale indoor air
• Uneven temperatures
• Excess dust
• Hidden pressure issues

We investigate first, then engineer solutions that perform.
