🎣MEET THE BODIFORD FAMILY
Kansas and Joseph Bodiford are lifelong Barnwell, South Carolina natives, high school sweethearts, and proud new parents to their beautiful daughter, Kizzy Jo, born September 5, 2026.
What they expected to be a typical first pregnancy quickly became a journey filled with uncertainty. At their 18-week anatomy scan, they learned Kizzy had an omphalocele, a rare birth defect in which abdominal organs develop outside of the abdomen. Doctors were also concerned about a possible genetic condition, but further testing brought wonderful news—the results were normal.
From that point forward, Kansas and Joseph navigated frequent high-risk appointments, specialists, and preparations for Kizzy to need surgery after birth. In August, Kansas went into preterm labor and was unable to return home to Barnwell. The couple relocated to the Ronald McDonald House near Wellstar MCG while awaiting Kizzy’s arrival.
Kizzy Jo made her entrance on September 5, weighing 8 lbs. 11.7 oz. After experiencing breathing difficulties at birth, she was intubated and admitted to the NICU. Just days later, she underwent surgery to repair her omphalocele—and thankfully, the surgery went beautifully.
Kizzy remains in the NICU, where she is breathing on her own, working on feeding, and continuing to show just how strong she is. Through every frightening diagnosis, every unknown, and every answered prayer, Kansas and Joseph’s faith has carried them.
