It’s been rather chilly lately! Did you know? Changing your HVAC filters once a month can save you big money on your electric bills. The filters usually only cost about $5, and protect your HVAC unit from dust and gunk buildup inside. How does it save you money by replacing them? Well, if your filter hasn’t been changed in a while, it builds up with the dust that would have accumulated in your unit. When this happens, your compressor, fan, and possibly your heat strips run to produce heat. But, since not much air can move through your several months old, clogged filter, not much heating (or cooling in the summer) can take place. Instead of your unit running 30 minutes to an hour, it might run several hours at a time to warm your home, and that extra run time gets really expensive, QUICKLY. Change those filters, you’ll be glad you did!

I can’t say this enough! Don’t use these things for extension cords, EVER! They’re designed for items that don’t draw much electricity. Never use them for window AC’s, space heaters, or any kitchen appliances (coffee pot, toaster, electric skillet, etc). If you do, you risk causing a fire. Plug these items directly into the nearest outlet, and if one isn’t close enough, consider moving the appliance or having a new outlet added.

: Some household devices aren't safe to plug into a power strip. These include microwaves, slow cookers, coffee makers, toasters, hair dryers and space heaters.

Deep thoughts from the shallow end: if you have a friend from Carteret County, who may possibly have been hacked, figuring out who is on the other end is actually quite simple. You merely message them and tell them that you can’t figure out what to do with your mullet. If they suggest a haircut, you almost certainly have an imposter on your hands; if they suggest frying in cornmeal, barbecuing over charcoal, or even bait, then your friend is fine and their account hasn’t been compromised 🤣 🤣
