🔍 WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SEPTIC INSPECTION?

Ever wondered what a septic inspection actually involves? It’s more than just taking a look at the tanks!

At Snyder Septic, we take the time to evaluate the system and make sure everything is operating as it should.

Here are a few things we look at:

🏡 1. The Septic System
We inspect the tanks and system components for signs of damage, wear, or other issues.

💧 2. The Drainfield/Sprayfield
We check the drainfield/sprayfield area for signs of saturation, standing water, or other concerns that could indicate a problem.

🚽 3. Plumbing & Flow
We look for proper flow and signs that the plumbing or septic system may not be functioning correctly.

⚙️ 4. System Components
Depending on the system, we inspect components such as pumps, alarms, distribution equipment, and other important parts.

📏 5. Sludge & Scum Levels
We measure the levels inside the tank to determine how much sludge and scum have accumulated. This helps us determine whether the tank may be due for pumping and gives us a better picture of the system’s condition.

📋 6. Overall Condition
We put everything together to give you a better understanding of the system’s current condition and whether maintenance or repairs may be needed.

Whether you’re buying a home, selling a home, or simply want to know what’s going on underground, a professional septic inspection can give you peace of mind.

🚽 How Often Should You Pump Your Septic Tank?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer! How often your septic tank needs to be pumped depends on things like:

🏠 Household size
👥 Number of people in the household
💧 How much water your home uses
🛢️ Tank size
🧻 How much solid waste enters the system
🔧 The condition and maintenance of your septic system

Regular pumping helps keep solids from building up and potentially making their way where they shouldn’t.

Too much sludge in your pump tank can cause your sprinkler pump to go out due to taking in sludge verses taking in effluent water.

And let’s face it, sprinkler pumps are not cheap.

Not sure when your tank was last pumped? That’s a good reason to have it checked. Keeping up with routine maintenance can help you catch problems before they turn into bigger, more expensive ones.

Give us a call! We will arrive promptly with a tool that allows our technicians to visually show you the amount of sludge in your septic tank.

🚽 WHAT NOT TO FLUSH: Your Septic System Is NOT a Trash Can!

Here’s a simple rule to remember:

If your body can’t break it down, neither can your septic system.

🚫 Flushable wipes
🚫 Paper towels
🚫 Baby wipes
🚫 Feminine hygiene products
🚫 Cotton balls & cotton swabs
🚫 Grease & cooking oils
🚫 Medications & chemicals

✅ Stick to toilet paper and human waste.

Even products labeled “flushable” can cause problems for your pipes, pumps, and septic system.

A little prevention can save you from a BIG service call. 🛠️

🚨 SEPTIC MYTHS: BUSTED! 🚨

Your septic system hears a LOT of bad advice. 😂
So let’s clear a few things up…

🚽 MYTH: “Flushable” wipes are totally fine.
👉 FACT: If it doesn’t break down like toilet paper, it can cause trouble. Your septic tank doesn’t care what the package says. 😅

💧 MYTH: The more water, the better!
👉 FACT: Your septic system can only handle so much at once. Spreading out laundry and heavy water use can help prevent unnecessary strain.

🧪 MYTH: All household cleaners are harmless to your septic system.
👉 FACT: Using large amounts of harsh chemicals can interfere with the natural bacteria your system depends on.

🛠️ MYTH: “Everything is working, so I don’t need maintenance.”
👉 FACT: Septic problems are a lot easier (and usually cheaper) to deal with BEFORE there’s sewage in the yard. 😬

🧻 MYTH: If it goes down the toilet, it belongs in the toilet.
👉 FACT: Your toilet is for human waste + toilet paper. Period. Keep wipes, paper towels, feminine products, grease, and other trash out of it.

💡 BOTTOM LINE: A little septic-friendly maintenance now can save you a BIG headache later.

🚨 SEPTIC SYSTEM REMINDER: 5 SIGNS YOUR SYSTEM MAY NEED ATTENTION 🚨

Your septic system usually gives you some warning before a small issue becomes a BIG one. Keep an eye out for these signs:

💧 1. Slow drains — Sinks, showers, or tubs draining slower than usual.

🚽 2. Gurgling toilets — Strange bubbling or gurgling sounds when you flush.

🌱 3. Extra-green or soggy spots — Unusually lush grass, standing water, or wet areas around your drain field or tank.

👃 4. Sewage odors — Foul smells around your yard, drains, or septic tank area.

🚨 5. Sewage backing up — The big one. If wastewater is backing up into your home, don’t wait to address it.

Catching problems early can help prevent bigger, more expensive repairs down the road.

Our pump truck works perfect for those preventative maintenance clean outs for your aerobic system. It's necessary every few years, ~3-5 years for a family of 3, to empty the accumulated solids from your septic system. Simply look at this as taking out the trash every 3-5 years. Preventative cleanings are necessary to help extend the life of all the septic components. Due to the weight added from sludge accumulation over time the pressure necessary to move air into the treatment unit increases, the compressor is now having to work harder to perform. The submersible pumps we use for dispersal application are top of the line, but still are only meant to pump a clean treated effluent. Once the accumulated sludge is within 4" of the pumps' intake screen we would recommend a cleaning to avoid a pump failure. Don't forget that just because it's been 'working great for 15 years' doesn't mean it hasn't been struggling to continue treating and pumping the wastewater/sludge that has accumulated over that amount of time. Don't get stuck with that bill, planned preventative maintenance is always the better option.

Time between your cleanings completely depends on how your household uses the septic. Everything that is sent down the drains will end up in the septic. We will always be transparent and honest when the question is: To pump or not to pump? Give us a call to get on our truck's schedule or to have us come take a look.
