Tick-tock. Is your dock a ticking financial time bomb?

In Washington, the "Foam Clock" is running. If your dock uses exposed white styrofoam, you’re risking more than a messy shoreline: you’re risking fines up to $10,000.

State regulations protect our waterways from foam pollution. Once unencapsulated blocks break down, they become a legal and environmental liability.

Sampson Built Solutions specializes in precision encapsulated upgrades. We replace deteriorating foam with durable shells to keep you compliant and afloat. It’s a smart investment in infrastructure integrity.

Ever had to chase foam pieces around your moorage after a storm? It’s a headache no owner wants.

Don’t wait for an inspection. We provide expert marine solutions across Clark, Cowlitz, and Skamania counties.

Talk to our project manager today to stay ahead of the regulations.

Clinical white and “millennial gray” are giving way to warmer, more livable spaces.

This recent mid-century modern bathroom renovation is a great example of how natural materials can completely change the feel of a space without sacrificing clean modern design.

The centerpiece of this project are the custom teak vanities. We chose teak not only for its rich, organic texture, but also for its durability in high-moisture environments. It brings warmth and depth into the room while complementing the modern lines and finishes.

Details matter in projects like this:
• Custom grain matching on cabinetry
• Seamless integration of modern fixtures
• A layout designed for usability and flow

A successful remodel starts long before the finish materials go in. From plumbing upgrades behind the walls to the final wood finish, we focus on craftsmanship and infrastructure built to last.

If you’re ready to move away from the sterile “all-white” look and bring some warmth back into your home, let’s walk your space.

Don’t let the “World’s Worst W**d” take over your waterfront.

Hydrilla is one of the most aggressive aquatic invasive species in the country, and experts are watching closely for it here in the Pacific Northwest.

How to spot it:
• Whorls of 4–8 leaves
• Saw-toothed leaf edges
• Midrib with small spines
• Dense surface canopies

Under ideal conditions, hydrilla can grow up to an inch per day, forming thick mats that foul propellers, impact swimming access, and clog docks, pumps, and waterways.

Fragmentation is what makes it so difficult to control: even a tiny broken piece can start a new infestation.

Have you noticed thick mats forming around your slips?
A) It’s already a jungle
B) Just starting to see it
C) Clear for now!

Our DASH system is designed for targeted hydrilla removal while capturing fragments before they spread downstream.

Don’t let the small white flowers fool you.

Brazilian elodea is a submerged invader that can quickly turn a healthy shoreline or marina into a tangled mess.

How to spot it:
• Whorls of 4–6 leaves along the stem
• Small white 3-petaled surface flowers
• Thick mats that clog props and pumps

This invasive spreads through fragmentation. Even a small piece broken loose can drift away and start a new colony.

Seen Brazilian elodea around your dock?
A) Yes: it’s a problem
B) Not yet, but I’m watching
C) I think so, but not sure

Improper removal can spread fragments and make infestations worse.

We use Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting (DASH) for targeted removal in high-traffic waterways.

Marina operators are facing a difficult balancing act in 2026: rising demand, aging infrastructure, and increasing operating costs.

With many facilities expecting expenses to continue climbing this year, preventative maintenance and long-term planning matter more than ever.

The strongest marina operations are focusing on:

proactive dive inspections
reliable dock and float systems
invasive vegetation management
reducing emergency repair costs before peak season

Small infrastructure problems rarely stay small on the water.

Our latest article breaks down several practical ways marina operators can improve reliability, reduce downtime, and better manage long-term operating costs throughout the Pacific Northwest.

If you’ve noticed a feathery green invader taking over your dock, you’re likely dealing with Eurasian watermilfoil.

This invasive species can turn a clear swimming area into a tangled mess in just a few seasons. Many property owners try to “mow” or rake it, but that often makes the problem worse. Because milfoil spreads through fragmentation, every piece you cut can drift away and start a new colony.

That’s why removal method matters.

Our Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting (DASH) system allows divers to remove the plant at the root while vacuuming vegetation directly into collection bags. This targeted approach helps minimize fragmentation and provides cleaner, longer-lasting results than simple cutting or raking.

Don’t just cut the weeds back. Address the source.

Let’s walk your space and build a custom plan for your waterfront property.

The Ridgefield waterfront redevelopment has become a major topic of conversation in our community.

As a local company serving Clark, Cowlitz, and Skamania counties, we understand how important Pacific Northwest waterways are to the people who live here. Balancing growth, public access, and new amenities while preserving the character of a hometown like Ridgefield is no small task, and it’s clear there are many different perspectives on what the future of the shoreline should look like.

Whether the final vision includes expanded trails, new public spaces, improved boat access, or additional waterfront infrastructure, one thing remains important: building it right and planning for long-term durability in a demanding marine environment.

At Sampson Built Solutions, we care deeply about the future of our regional waterways and the communities connected to them.

We’d love to hear your thoughts:
What do you think matters most as the Ridgefield waterfront continues to evolve?
