Today, weโ€™re excited to announce that Hackett Construction & Millwright Services "HCC" and Hackett Industrial Services "HIS" are bringing their Facebook presence together!

HIS was created for one practical reason: specialized work required insurance coverage that could not be added without jeopardizing HCCโ€™s existing coverage. Although HIS was technically a new company, it was built on decades of Hackett experience.

Nick Thenen and Brian Grubius understand that HCC and HIS are strongest when they support one another. Weโ€™re proud to make that unity visible and celebrate everything these teams are accomplishing together.

Going forward, this page will be the shared home for the crews, projects, history, milestones, and people of both HCC and HIS.

Nick has known Hackett for as long as he can remember. Growing up, hard work was not something simply talked about in the Thenen family โ€” it was expected. Under his father, Jerry โ€œBig Jerryโ€ Thenen, Nick learned early what it meant to show up, work hard, take responsibility, and earn your place.

All three have since passed, making this an especially meaningful chapter in Hackettโ€™s history.

The Board also extends its sincere appreciation to Thad Homister for his leadership and commitment during this transition. ๐“๐ก๐š๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฆ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ฌ ๐š๐ง ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐‡๐š๐œ๐ค๐ž๐ญ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ž๐š๐ฆ and will continue focusing on project management and taking care of our customers.

True to a friendship between our families that has spanned decades, Thad stepped forward when Hackett needed him most. Following the losses of both Jerry and JT, he answered the call in more ways than one.

A recent post from Leila Arboretum brought back the story of a project Hackett had a hand in around 1996 or 1997: moving the historic cupola that now crowns the gazebo in the Arboretumโ€™s Childrenโ€™s Garden.

The cupola once stood atop the Phelps Sanitarium, which opened in 1900 and later became known as the Kellogg Annex and Fieldstone Building. Nearly 100 years old, 18 feet tall, and 16 feet wide, it was far more than an ordinary load. Secured on a fork truck, it made a slow, three-mile journey through downtown Battle Creek on its way to Springfield for restoration.

The newspaper photographs captured Hackettโ€™s ๐—๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐—ณ ๐—”๐—น๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ and Mark Hall preparing the cupola for its unusual trip, with Mark leading the way as this enormous piece of history traveled through town. Nearly 30 years later, Mark is still with Hackett and now serves as a project manager. Thankfully, he also held onto the newspaper clipping that helps us share this piece of our companyโ€™s history today.

After being restored, the cupola found its permanent home at Leila Arboretum. Instead of looking down from the roof of a hospital, it now stands surrounded by gardens, families, and children making new memories beneath it.

Our family has always loved preserving historyโ€”not only the items themselves, but also the workmanship, memories, and stories they carry. Weโ€™re proud that Jeff, Mark, and Hackett had a small part in helping this treasured piece of Battle Creek history find a second life.

Something exciting is taking shape at Hackett Construction & Millwright Services.

We are not simply updating a safety program. We are building a stronger safety cultureโ€”one that protects our employees, strengthens our reputation, and sets Hackett apart.

Leading this effort is Harold Jewell, whose knowledge was built through more than 40 years of hands-on experience in demanding industrial environments. Haroldโ€™s leadership gives Hackett an exciting opportunity to build something that will have a lasting impact.

In our newsletter spotlight, we share more about Haroldโ€™s background, the experience that sets him apart, and his vision for the future of safety at Hackett. We are proud to have Harold helping lead this effortโ€”and excited to see where his knowledge, energy, and vision take us.

This is more than a safety updateโ€”it is an investment in our people, our customers, and the future of Hackett Construction.
