In 1700s Lanarkshire, native horses were bred with Flemish stallions for greater weight and power. The result? The mighty Clydesdales.

Clydesdales gained popularity throughout the 19th century. At their peak, there were 140,000 farm horses in Scotland - and most of them were Clydesdales. Tractors and other machine may have replaced them on the modern farm, but they’ve never been replaced in our hearts. 🐴 💗

Our cheeky Clydesdale Gina celebrates her fifth birthday today. Pop by and say hello to Gina and her mum at the National Museum of Rural Life this weekend. 🐴 💗
