It’s one of the most common questions we get—and it sounds like it should have a simple answer.

But a fence professional needs to know a lot more than the total number of feet before giving you an accurate price.

Two fences can both be 400 feet long and have completely different costs.

🌧️ Sometimes the best drainage solution isn’t another French drain. A homeowner in Schulenburg, Texas was dealing with runoff coming into their backyard from the rear alley and neighboring property. Because of the way the property was graded, simply adding fill dirt wasn’t going to solve the problem — and installing a drain without a proper place to discharge the water could have created another headache.

During our onsite consultation, Butler Contracting walked the homeowner through several options and introduced them to the idea of a rain garden.
A rain garden creates a designated area where stormwater can collect, slow down, and gradually soak into the ground instead of leaving standing water throughout the yard.

We handled the excavation, grading, edging, and rock installation, then provided the homeowner with plant recommendations so they can finish the area with the plants and look they want.

And the best part? About a week after installation, the rain came — and the customer told us they were loving the results. 🙌

That’s the Butler Contracting difference.

Is cedar really the best choice for a privacy fence?
Maybe — but “cedar” alone doesn’t make a great fence.

One of the biggest misconceptions we see in the fence industry is that cedar is automatically superior to treated lumber. Cedar can be an excellent fencing product, but quality lumber still has to be properly designed, installed, protected and maintained. Butler Contracting has the expertise in Central Texas to help you select the right options for you. We do not just push a product or something that a Google search says is better. We have over a decade of experience running a fence company we know what gets customers the best return on their investment.

These photos are a good reminder that wood is still wood. Moisture, weather exposure, insects, installation practices and maintenance can all affect how a fence performs over time.

That’s why Butler Contracting recommends pre-staining cedar privacy fences with a deep-penetrating oil-based stain before installation. It allows us to protect more of the wood—including areas that become difficult or impossible to properly coat after the fence is assembled.
