BEC is monitoring weather reports and preparing for an arctic front that is expected to reach Texas this weekend. The National Weather Service is anticipating below freezing temperatures and the potential for precipitation and icy conditions across BEC’s service area Friday evening into Sunday.

BEC is closely monitoring the weather forecast and taking proactive preparations including:
Ensuring we have ample crews who are staged and ready to respond. Making sure vehicles are stocked and winter-ready. Confirming facilities are stocked with supplies and working with our suppliers to ensure adequate reserves are available.

Members are encouraged to make a plan in case outages occur. If you experience an outage, please report it by calling (254) 527-3551 or (512) 746-2771.

Here are some additional tips to help members stay warm and safe:

Prepare your home: Drip faucets to prevent pipes from freezing and wrap outdoor faucets with an insulated cover.

Charge cell phones and prepare your emergency kit: Include food for people and pets, water, medication, blankets, batteries, chargers, and other essential items.

A statewide list of warming centers is available on the Texas Department of Emergency Management’s website. Please remember to check on neighbors, especially those who are elderly and live alone.
