👉Why might a surveyor need to survey the entire property when you only need one property line marked?

It is a common question, especially when someone is planning a fence, driveway, shed, or landscaping project along just one side of their property.

A property line usually cannot be confirmed accurately by measuring only that one side. Surveyors must review the deed, subdivision plans, neighboring property records, existing monuments, and other boundary evidence to determine how all of the property’s corners and lines fit together.

This is especially important in older subdivisions, where markers may be missing, disturbed, damaged, or based on older records and measuring methods. Before a surveyor can confidently mark one boundary line, they may need to establish the full property boundary and verify that the measurements close correctly.

A full boundary survey helps ensure that:

👉The correct property line is being marked
👉A fence or structure is not accidentally placed on a neighbor’s land
👉Existing records and monuments agree
👉Potential boundary issues are identified before construction begins

Although it may seem like more work than the immediate project requires, completing the full survey protects the property owner, the neighboring owner, and the surveyor—and can help prevent costly disputes or relocation work later.

👉Planning a Property Project? Start Early.

Demand for land surveying remains high throughout New Hampshire and southern Maine. Boundary questions, property improvements, subdivisions, permitting, and land development all require careful research and fieldwork—and qualified surveyors are booking several months in advance.

Stonewall Surveying is currently scheduling new projects approximately four to five months out.

To help us manage this demand and ensure every inquiry is received, reviewed, and answered, we have introduced a new online Project Request System.

New clients should visit our website and complete the New Project Request Form. This provides the property details, project needs, and timeline we need to evaluate your request and place it in the appropriate queue.

After submitting the form, you can expect an email response within two to three business days with additional information.

At this time, we are unable to accept phone inquiries from prospective new clients. This change does NOT apply to current Stonewall Surveying clients.

Thank you to our clients and community for your patience and continued support as our team works hard to serve property owners throughout New Hampshire and southern Maine.

Today I did a site walk around a hundred acre parcel of land. Plenty of varying terrain, river crossing and wetlands. After one wetland crossing it became a "tick race" up my leg 😂. Just that crossing I picked off almost 20 ticks. Many more the rest of the day. Those little buggers.....who needs you! We'll ok 🐔's.

Cold water. Warm hearts. Big impact. 🌊🐾

I proudly represented Stonewall Surveying as part of Team Freezin’ for a Reason at this year’s Doggie Paddle Plunge to support the New Hampshire SPCA — and thanks to our incredible community, our team raised $8,149 (the highest team total!), with myself personally raising $2,514.

Together, the event brought in over $38,000 for homeless animals in need.

We’re beyond grateful to our clients, colleagues, friends, and family who donated, shared, and cheered us on. This is what community looks like.

And yes… we’ll be back in the water next year. 💪
