We're excited to announce that Haley Ward has acquired Conceptual Design Group, Inc., a Florida-based landscape architecture and planning firm founded by Jeffrey W. Smith, RLA.

This acquisition strengthens our growing presence in Florida and expands our service offerings throughout the Southeast with the addition of landscape architecture services.

Jeffrey brings more than 30 years of experience in planning and landscape architecture, having worked on a wide range of commercial, residential, institutional, recreational, and mixed-use developments throughout South Florida.

Recently, we had the privilege of celebrating the retirement of John Chagnon, PE, CFS, LLS, Vice President and Senior Project Manager in Haley Ward's Portsmouth, NH office, following an extraordinary career spanning more than four decades in engineering, surveying, and land development.

John founded Ambit Engineering in 1988 and successfully led the firm for more than 30 years before joining Haley Ward through our acquisition of Ambit in 2022. Throughout his career, he built a reputation for technical excellence, thoughtful project management, and dedication to his clients and communities.

Among his many accomplishments, John received the National Society of Professional Land Surveyors Surveying Excellence Award in 2002, the highest individual honor awarded by the surveying profession.

We are grateful for John's leadership, expertise, and the lasting impact he has had on our company, our clients, and the profession. Please join us in congratulating him on his retirement and wishing him all the best in this next chapter.

Sometimes the best way to learn math is to get outside and use it.

Recently, Haley Ward Project Manager and employee-owner Jeff Weeks, PLS, returned to Brewer High School to help honors pre-calculus students apply their classroom lessons to a real-world surveying challenge: determining the height of a barn using surveying equipment, measurements, and trigonometry.

The hands-on exercise gave students a glimpse into the world of land surveying while demonstrating how the skills they're learning today can translate into rewarding careers tomorrow.

What a great evening for Haley Ward on Florida's Space Coast!

Last night, members of our Florida team had the opportunity to present to nearly 100 attendees at an event hosted by the Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast. They did an outstanding job sharing the Haley Ward story, highlighting our services, employee ownership culture, and growing presence throughout Florida.

As a member of the Economic Development Commission's Board of Directors, Haley Ward’s Vice President and Melbourne Engineering Manager, David Baggett, helped facilitate an excellent opportunity for our team to connect with local business and community leaders. We were also proud to sponsor the event's refreshments and share information about Haley Ward and the services we provide throughout the region.

How do you evaluate the future of marine electrification across an entire coastline?

We recently partnered with Homarus Strategies and Island Institute on a first-of-its-kind project assessing the viability of marine propulsion electrification throughout coastal Maine. Using a combination of geospatial analysis, geovisualization, and a custom Multiple Criteria Evaluation (MCE) framework, the project evaluated sites based on grid capacity and proximity, market viability, user demand, and overall site suitability.

The work brought together a wide range of datasets to help identify opportunities supporting the future of Maine’s working waterfront and marine economy, while also translating complex analysis into clear, actionable insights.

Congratulations to Lucy Feeney on earning her Engineer Intern (EI) certification! Lucy has been a valued member of the Haley Ward team since 2018, when she joined the company as an intern. Today, she serves as a Project Engineer in our Bangor, Maine office.

Over the years, Lucy has continued to develop her experience working primarily in land development and municipal infrastructure, helping support projects throughout the region.
