Heating should not be an afterthought in a heat pump chiller.

Engineers should not have to write their own control sequence, hunt for design-day answers, or figure out defrost on their own.

The new Nyle® Tero™ heat pump chiller series was built for both heating and cooling.

Tero provides published low-ambient performance data, coordinated defrost, controls that stage up to eight units, and support from selection through startup.

Peak demand sets the boundary.

Recirculation is part of the DHW load.

That sounds obvious, but it is easy to miss in heat pump water heater design.

Peak draw tells you how much hot water the building needs at one moment.

The return loop tells you how much heat the system has to keep putting back into the water throughout the day.

That difference matters.

In older single-pass HPWH designs, swing tanks often handled the return loop because recirc was hard to send directly through the heat pump.

Multi-pass and return-to-primary designs change the conversation. In the right application, the heat pump can carry more of the full DHW load directly, recirc included.

So the sizing question is not only:

"What is the peak demand?"

It is also:

"What is the recirc load, and where should it go?"

Know that early. It affects equipment sizing, storage volume, backup heat, and whether a swing tank belongs in the design at all.

Most commercial DHW sizing errors start with the same miss:
Peak day gets modeled. Peak hour gets ignored.

📆 Peak day tells you total demand.
⌚ Peak hour tells you whether the system can keep up when demand stacks up fast.

A 200-room hotel with a 6 to 9 AM shower window does not care about the 24-hour total. It cares about recovery, storage, and flow when the morning load hits.

The fix is not always bigger equipment.

It is better load math:

- Concentrated draws
- Simultaneity factors
- Recovery against the actual demand curve
- Storage strategy that matches the peak window

That is where commercial water heating specs either hold up or force changes after startup.
