This is great!

I picked up a Bandera Bulletin the other day, because my kiddo and I are learning about news and media in school right now.

I had her flip through it, read some, learn the different areas of a newspaper. Until, she hit the comics section that is.

She brought over the newspaper to me and said, "Mom, isn't this funny? You and Daddy run a roofing company, you get material from Hevenor Feed & Supply, and you had shingles!" It's like they copied your life."

Yes kid, apparently our life is just one big roofing comic. 😂🙈

We wanna be rich.

Rich in family.
Rich in friends.
Rich in community.
Rich in good work.
Rich in time.
Rich in freedom.
Rich in experiences.
Rich in a home full of life.

And somewhere along the way, we realized…

DC1 has given us the opportunity to build a life that feels rich in all the ways that matter.

It’s given us work we’re proud of.
It’s introduced us to people we wouldn’t have met otherwise.
It’s given us a reason to be part of our community.
It’s given us freedom to build our days around our family.

We started a roofing company.

But somewhere along the way, we started building a life, too.

And honestly?

We already feel pretty damn rich.

Okay, but who the heck is behind DC1? 😂

We’ve got a lot of new people here and figured it was probably time to introduce ourselves again!

We’re Matt + Brittany Hunkin — husband and wife, business partners, parents, and two people who apparently looked at all the normal ways to make a living and said, nah, let’s start a construction company. 😂

⚓️ Matt spent 16 years in the Coast Guard as a Damage Controlman. Yep—Damage Control. Which is basically a pretty fitting career choice for the guy who now spends his days fixing houses. 😂

📸 I spent about a decade running a photography business, so I went from photographing families, weddings and pretty houses to… roofing estimates, marketing, contracts, construction projects and trying to make sure Matt remembers to call people back. 😂

🏡 We live out in the Hill Country with our daughter, we’re slowly fixing up our own old house, and we have a slightly unhealthy appreciation for old buildings, character, good craftsmanship and anything that feels like it has a story.

🤠 DC1 has become this funny little intersection of all of it.

Matt brings the construction experience, the problem-solving and the “I can probably fix that” attitude.

I bring the business side, the creative side, the people side and a truly unreasonable number of ideas.

And somewhere in the middle, we’re building this thing.

Not perfectly.

Definitely not without a little chaos.

But we’re building it ours.

So, that’s us.

A little DC1 + life lately update…dirty mirror edition. 💃

Things have been a little quiet around here, but definitely NOT still. 😂

We’ve been behind the scenes working on a lot of things, talking, planning, and figuring out our next steps for our business.

And then, because apparently we like making life interesting, we decided to go back to full-time homeschool instead of keeping our kiddo in the hybrid school we were in. 🤪

So… that’s fun.

But seriously, we’re figuring it out. Some days better than others.

We’ve got some BIG jobs coming up, a bunch of fun local events on the calendar, and some ideas for DC1 that I’m really excited about.

So if you’ve been wondering where we’ve been…

We’re still here.

There are a LOT of roofers.

So why DC1?

Honestly, it’s not because we’re the biggest.

It’s not because we’re trying to be the loudest.

And it’s definitely not because we think a new roof needs to come with a sales pitch.

We’re just people who care about other people and were tired of seeing friend after friend get screwed by the construction world.

We answer the phone.

We show up.

We tell you what we actually think your house needs, even if that means you don’t need a whole new roof.

And when we’re finished, we want you to feel like you hired your friend, not a company passing through town.

There are a lot of roofers.

We’re just trying to be the kind you’re glad you called.

Cringe. 😂 I’ve never done a voiceover before, but here we are.

I think sometimes you just have to be willing to try the thing that makes you cringe a little. Push the limits. Get uncomfortable. Try something new. You never know what it might open the door to.

And lately, I’ve felt so incredibly blessed to find people who genuinely want to see you succeed. People who cheer you on, make room for you, connect you with others, and actually want to see how far you can go.

I’m so thankful for Megan at Supreme Lending and Tara at McKnight Title for creating a space for us to do just that. ❤️

And if you need ANYTHING real estate related… I’ve got a person for just about all of it. 😂

There’s something really special about a small town.

You see people show up for kids who aren’t their own. You see people cheer for each other, make room for different kinds of people, and celebrate the things that make this place unique.

And you see how much work there still is to do. How easy it can be for people to feel left out, misunderstood, or like they don’t quite belong.

But I love this town. I really do.

I love the people, the history, the grit, the weird little things that make it ours. And I want so badly for DC1 to be part of something bigger than just a business.

I want to build something that contributes to this place. To show up. To support our kids. To support our neighbors. To celebrate people. To help preserve what makes this community special.

And I hope we can keep making the table a little bigger.

Because I think there’s room for all of us here. 🤍

If y’all don’t have anything going on today, come hang out at the Labor Day Market on the Bandera Courthouse Lawn! There’ll be lots of cool vendors, and you might even spot some DC1 gear 👀

Go early though… because we’re still in Texas and “Labor Day” apparently doesn’t mean fall weather. 😂☀️
