A reminder that not every home upgrade has to be a renovation.

Sometimes it’s texture and removing something that doesn't feel right.

We’re removing the end of this built-in and giving the living room a Venetian plaster-inspired finish. Already obsessed. ✨

Another before + after file being released! 🤯

When we bought this house, I knew these bathrooms had to go. 😅 You saw the master bathroom the other day, but that was honestly just the beginning. Pictures don’t even show how many random nooks, awkward corners, and downright weird things were packed into this house. And not the fun kind of weird, the kind that’s a pain to clean and makes you question every decision the previous owner made. 😂

This is our other bathroom transformation, and one thing I absolutely had to have was a bathtub. We got hit with sickness after sickness when we first moved in, and trying to survive without a tub made me realize just how much I missed having one. The second we started feeling better, we grabbed the demo tools and gutted both bathrooms.

Your home should be your comfort zone. The place you can walk into at the end of a long day and feel at peace. If there’s something in your house that drives you crazy every time you see it, don’t underestimate how much changing it can improve the way your home feels.

Sometimes the projects really are worth doing. ⚡️

The Before + After Files have officially begun. Up next, The Fireplace Hearth. And you'll never guess what was under this rug in front of the fireplace...or better yet, what wasn't.

When we bought the house, we had no idea that under that little rug, was just wood, better yet...burnt wood. 🙈

I was adamant about getting to use the fireplace, but I was sooooo nervous about burning down the entire house. So, adding in a tiled hearth was necessary for me to feel comfortable to use my fireplace.

Now, this little slice of the house is one of my favorite spots. I think the only thing I'll eventually be adding over to this area, is a true mantle and a crane so I can cook over the fire.

What's your favorite spot in your house? Drop a picture and show it off! 😍

For those of you that personally know us, you know what kind of house we purchased. 👀

We bought a bit of a fixer upper. Great bones, solid foundation, but very outdated and honestly… pretty poorly taken care of.

Somehow, Matt always trusts my vision with these things, because this place was ROUGH. 😂

Our old house was your typical cookie cutter neighborhood house. Mass produced, no character at all. But over time, I made it feel like us. Added character, warmth, personality… and turned it into a home we genuinely loved.

That was until we no longer felt safe in our neighborhood.

So we started looking for land. Our own little private oasis. And we found exactly that… just with a house that desperately needed some love.

Since then, month after month, we’ve been tackling projects little by little to update our home.

Some projects are still unfinished.
Some are still in progress.
But so many have already completely changed the way our home feels.

And we’ve done all of it ourselves.

We’ve laid tile, hung sheetrock, repaired metal roofing, taken down walls and completely reworked layouts. I’ve learned venetian-style texture techniques with sheetrock mud, limewashing, plumbing… honestly a little bit of everything at this point. 😂

So when we say we KNOW what these projects take… we really do.

The materials.
The labor.
The process.
The vision — or sometimes the lack of it in the beginning. 😅
The cost of running a business fairly and doing things the right way.

We get it because we live it too.

So now I’m thinking maybe it’s time we start sharing more of the projects we’ve tackled around our own home. 👀

This weekend, while I was recovering from a cold, we did something simple that turned into a really good reminder of why spaces matter.

We let our girl paint her room. And by paint, I mean finger paint — completely unstructured, a little chaotic, and full of whatever her imagination wanted in that moment.

And honestly… it was perfect.

Because the truth is, spaces aren’t just meant to look good. They’re meant to allow life to happen inside of them.

To invite creativity instead of restricting it.
To encourage play instead of constant “be careful.”
To make room for mess, movement, and memory.

A well-designed space isn’t fragile. It doesn’t feel like something you have to protect from real life — it supports real life.

That’s what we’re always thinking about in our work at DC1. Not just how a space looks when it’s finished, but how it functions when people actually live in it.

Because the best spaces don’t just stay beautiful.

They get used.

Small business runs on trust.

Every project, every referral, every kind word means something to our family. We’re incredibly grateful for the people who choose us to care for their homes.

There’s a lot of pride behind what we do, and reviews like this remind us why it matters. 🤍

Summer was never supposed to happen entirely indoors.

Slow mornings.
Bare feet.
Late dinners outside.
Kids running through the yard.
Friends staying too long.
Pups enjoying the deck.

That's how summer's should be spent. Build spaces that make people want to gather.
