We’ve had an incredible amount of rain in our area over the last couple of weeks, with flooding just about everywhere. Yesterday morning alone, we received around 5.9 inches of rain in roughly 30 minutes.
I sprayed this container with closed-cell spray foam earlier this summer. Yesterday, the container, the owner’s old barn, and his new shop with an apartment all took on water.
I stopped by today to check on the damage and see what I could do to help—he’s like family to me. One thing I was extremely pleased to see was how well the closed-cell spray foam held up. Even after the flooding, the foam in the container was dry and still doing exactly what it was supposed to do.
Because of how well it performed, he’s now having me spray the lower 3 feet of the walls in his finished shop to provide additional protection if something like this ever happens again.
A lot of people focus on the upfront cost of closed-cell spray foam, but situations like this show the value. Many traditional insulation materials that get saturated during a flood may need to be removed and replaced. The closed-cell foam in this container came through it without a problem.
