Another progress update from one of our Baltimore projects! These magnolia trees were installed in mid‑May and are settling in beautifully, adding a strong layer of screening on the other side of the property as the landscape continues to take shape.

In honor of Memorial Day, our Maxalea crews spent time over the past two weeks caring for the landscape at the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.

Our crews refreshed and replanted sections of juniper, helping ensure the grounds remain healthy, vibrant, and ready for the many families and visitors who come to reflect during this time of remembrance.

The work is quiet but meaningful, tending to the living landscape that surrounds the statues, pathways, and memorial wall, and helping preserve this space for future generations.

We were also proud to partner with a veteran-owned supplier for the 1,500 junipers used in this restoration, adding another layer of meaning to this project.

This work reflects the values we hold true: mission first, team always, selfless service, and taking ownership of the work entrusted to us.

We are grateful for the opportunity to help care for a place built to honor courage, sacrifice, and service. Today and always, we remember.

In progress on a Baltimore project this week installing American holly trees for immediate screening as part of the full landscape and hardscape plan designed by . Our crews are working through the heat to get placement and watering right, and it’s exciting to watch the design take shape on site.

A look back at last year’s spring annual install at this property, from delivery to sorting to planting to watering and then the full summer peak. Our teams were back here yesterday installing this year’s annuals, going through the same process with crews, account managers, and production managers all pitching in to set, plant, and water every plant. The teamwork behind these transformations is what brings each landscape to life year after year.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Our second annual delivery of the week arrived early this morning with trays of dahlias, begonias, vinca, and all the spring color our teams will be planting at client properties in the days ahead. Huge shoutout to our procurement department and to the crew members who helped unload everything early this morning. The season is officially in motion.

We kicked off spring annual planting installs this week and also took a moment to celebrate the people who make it all happen. Yesterday’s employee appreciation lunch with food truck was a small way to say thank you to our crews and office team.

We’re grateful for the hands, heart, and hard work behind every project.

Check out this completed project transformation at a Baltimore County residence.

For this project, we redesigned and installed new plantings, landscape lighting, and a bluestone walkway, along with rebuilding and expanding the masonry front porch. Together, these improvements create an entry experience that works seamlessly with the home’s existing architecture and enhances curb appeal from start to finish.

Teamwork makes the dream work!

On Arbor Day, we’re celebrating thoughtful tree care in action. This Coral Bark Maple (Acer palmatum ‘Sango-kaku’) was carefully lifted with a tree spade in partnership with Dave Leupen, owner of Tree Link Tree Movers, to protect it during a client’s upcoming home renovation. The move preserves its structure, root system, and long-term health. Spring is the ideal season for a transplant like this, and our team follows the same standards arborists trust to ensure longevity. Stewardship isn’t just planting new trees; it’s protecting the ones that already shape a landscape. And at Maxalea, that commitment isn’t limited to one day a year; every day is Arbor Day in the way we care for the trees entrusted to us.

From the archives:
Long before Maxalea became what it is today, this is how we worked, plant by plant, client by client. The gentleman on the left is Don McWilliams, second-generation Maxalea owner, helping a customer select a shrub outside the front office, where it still exists today. That care for plants, and for people, still guides our work. This is where we came from, this is how we’ve always worked. Some things never change.
