Today is extra special as we celebrate Justin’s 21st birthday while also making great progress on another paving project here in Bakersfield on Redbank Street!
It’s a hot day out, but our crew is thriving and working hard to create beautifully paved streets that will serve the community for years to come. The transformation is incredible—you can really see the difference in the photos and how much this improvement will enhance the look and feel of the area.
We’re excited and proud to be a part of this project and to help make our community better, one road at a time.

Beautiful day out here in Bakersfield at the Pioneer Drive Apartments project! ☀️🚧

Our concrete crew is hard at work preparing the site subgrade for curb and gutter as this project continues to take shape. It’s great seeing the progress being made and the teamwork out in the field every day.

Big shoutout to our Foreman Rigoberto and his entire crew for their dedication, leadership, and the quality work they continue to deliver. We truly appreciate the hard work, long hours, and effort these guys put in to keep things moving safely and efficiently.

Thankful for a strong team representing Burtch Construction and getting the job done right! 💪👷‍♂️

***In construction, subgrade is the prepared soil surface that sits underneath roads, concrete, curb and gutter, sidewalks, asphalt, or foundations. It’s basically the ground layer that gets graded, compacted, and shaped before any base rock or concrete is placed.

For curb and gutter work, the crew prepares the subgrade so the concrete has a solid, stable foundation to sit on. Good subgrade work helps prevent settling, cracking, and drainage issues later on.

Are you a master of the machine?
Burtch Construction is looking for a skilled Vehicle and Heavy Equipment Mechanic to keep our fleet moving. If you have extensive knowledge of diesel engines, a “get-it-done” attitude, and aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty in the shop or out in the field, we want to talk to you.
Why Join the Burtch Team?
Competitive Pay: $20–$30 per hour (commensurate with experience)
Stability: Full-time, non-exempt position
Dynamic Work Environment: Work in our main shop and travel to various job sites
What You’ll Be Doing
You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing everything from light-duty vehicles to heavy-duty construction equipment.
Diagnose & Repair: calibrate devices to identify and fix malfunctions
Maintain: Perform routine hourly and monthly service/maintenance on all vehicles and equipment
Field Work: Respond to emergency repair calls and travel to job sites for inspections and repairs
Build & Fabricate: Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools; perform rebuilds and fabrication as needed
Compliance: Ensure all equipment meets Federal and State DOT regulations
What We’re Looking For
Experience: Proven experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic with strong knowledge of diesel engines
Licensing: Valid, clean California driver’s license (Class A preferred)
Education: High school diploma or GED
Physical Strength: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally
Working Conditions
Schedule: Full-time; must be available for after-hours work if required
Physical Demands: Standing, climbing, crawling, and operating heavy machinery
Work Environment: Shop and field-based work at various job sites
Reporting: Reports directly to the Fleet Superintendent
