Granny T's Garden Located in NW Iowa, Granny T's Garden is my 4 acre slice of heaven, with over 850 varieties of hostas and daylilies, as well as sunny and native perennials.

While we no longer have a formal business, we continue to sell plants and decor when available. Welcome to Granny T's Garden. We originated as a hosta, daylily, succulent and vintage garden nursery in 2011. However, as the business grew very rapidly and we began raising our special needs Grandson, it became very apparent that my families needs were going to suffer spring through fall. So I made the very difficult (and yet easy) decision to close the business in 2017. We've spent the last two years selling off plant and decor inventory, and for the first time in 9 years, I've been able to spend time in my gardens "just for the fun of it". I am currently working to repair the damage of voles and drought from previous years. We will continue to sell hostas and daylilies from our gardens by appointment, on a very limited basis. I've been blessed to have had this opportunity to meet so many "Garden Friends" through the years!

I know I am. Tired. To the bone tired. I say I look forward to winter but when it gets here I start dreaming of the gardens. Definitely going to try something different with the tomatoes as I get hit with blight every year in the hoop. With Friday's probability of a freeze, I have one more picking of beans and tomatoes. My poblano, jalapeño and bell peppers are loaded and will have to have a final picking, and I have 2 rows of beets and a planting of fall peas just flowering. So I won't be done on Friday. Good news- we'll have PLENTY of fresh organic veggies to enjoy all winter! While watching Netflix. And planning the next season's garden work! And wishing winter wasn't quite so long!

"When life gives you lemons..."

In this case, "when compost gives you squash". We picked approximately 40 from our compost today, with over half this size, and we suspect from just one plant! Who knew squash loved compost THIS much. These, no doubt, came from the few rotted squash we composted late this winter. CRAZY!

FOR SALE: Still downsizing/minimizing!

1) Kintzley's Ghost Honeysuckle
Native honeysuckle that needs some room. This is a BIG ONE! I had purchased to replace a honeysuckle that I thought had died, but it recovered and this has nowhere to go currently. My loss is your gain. I paid @ $50 for it several years ago, so it's much bigger now.
$40 SOLD

2) mangave (unknown variety)
I adore mangave because they require so little work and water- perfect if you want to travel. But I've run out of room under my grow lights and can't have houseplants. This one is @ 24" in diameter. I've had probably 10 or more years! Outside pot is not included.

FOR SALE:

1- allium "glaucum". This clump is HUGE, approximately 18" x 24". However, it does have a grass invasion that will need cleaned out. You can easily make 8-10 little clumps from it. One of my favorites, and my smallest for height, it grows happily anywhere I put it. If you enlarge the photo, you'll see it's also COVERED by pollinators!
$10

2- Burr Oak seedlings (4 available)
These are seedlings I've dug from gardens and potted. There is a 4th that isn't potted yet. If you've ever dug them, you know how hard of a job that can be. They make such beautiful trees. Seedlings are 12"-"18' tall. They are due to be upsized, and I can even provide you with a tree pot if you choose to keep them potted.
$5 each or all 4 for $15 SOLD

More veggie work as summer winds down. All monarchs have eclosed and are on their way to Mexico, with a few straggle chrysalis hidden in the beds. Big thanks to Joy Lynn West for her help weeding and deadheading! It also appears as if we’ve started an Orb Weaver farm. I’d say I came across at least 30-40 yesterday!! And if you know me you know I was NOT a happy girl! 🤬 How many will there be next year?
