One of my top favorite kitchen projects we’ve done. I love the solution for discrete backsplash outlets my client chose. The objective was to hide the outlets and switches on the backsplash. For a seamless look. First option they came up with was placing the outlets under the cabinets Instead of placing everything on the backsplash, but we all agreed low horizontal mounted outlets would be the best fit for both functionality and aesthetics. The reality is we all have counter top appliances that are used in everyday life. Placing the outlets under the counters would result in either unsightly cords hanging from the bottom of the cabinet or the need to bend down and look up to plug in the appliances or phone chargers.

The call came in for a GFCI outlet not working at the dock for a jet ski lift. We opened the outlet and had no power to the terminals. When I tugged on the wires the hot conductor pulled right out of the pipe all burnt and corroded. We looked at the dock and saw 1 rusty burnt looking screw and our hunch was right. A dock screw went through the pipe and severed the hot conductor. The circuit breaker never tripped and this pipe was filled with water which means under the right condition this screw could have carried the electric up to the dock. GFCI protection at the panel would have eliminated any potential hazard.
