🚨 Fiberglass and Vinyl Pool & Automatic Cover Update During the Slow Ice Melt ❄️💧

As the snow and ice continue to melt very slowly, this is actually the most delicate stage for your in-ground fiberglass and vinyl pools and automatic cover systems.

Even though things may look thawed — there is often still hidden ice where you can’t see it.

Please follow these important tips:

❗️Do NOT operate your automatic cover yet
Ice can still be hiding in the tracks, ropes, reel, and under the fabric. This is when covers get damaged.

❗️Melting ice is heavier than snow
As it melts, it turns into heavy water weight on the cover or pool surface. Leave everything in its current position and do not try to change it.

❗️Ice on the pool surface is NOT harmful
Ice freezes from the top down and expands upward — it does not push against the pool walls. This is normal and expected for fiberglass and vinyl pools.

❗️If your pool is not winterized — keep the pump running 24/7
Warm days and freezing nights can refreeze water inside equipment and cause cracking. Continuous circulation is very important during this thaw period.

🔹 Let the sun do the work ☀️
Do not use hot water, chisels, or force anything to move. Slow natural thawing is the safest method.

At this point, the best thing you can do is be patient and allow everything to thaw naturally.

‼️ If your AUTOMATIC POOL COVER is currently frozen shut and cannot be opened before the incoming snow and ice:

❄️ Urgent Cold Weather Automatic Cover Notice

If your automatic pool cover is currently frozen shut, please DO NOT attempt to force it open — even with snow expected. Operating a frozen cover can cause serious damage to the ropes, tracks, and motor.

If time allows before the storm, you may try to gently thaw only:
• Turn power off to the cover
• Remove loose snow with a soft broom or blower
• Slowly melt ice along the tracks and leading edge using sunlight, dark towels, lukewarm water, or a hair dryer/heat gun on LOW (kept moving and never close)

Before operating the cover, lightly press or lift the leading edge to confirm it moves freely.
Once thawed, open only in short taps while watching both sides.

⚠️ If the cover does not move freely, do not run it. It is safer to leave the cover closed through the storm than to risk major mechanical damage.

If you notice uneven movement, fabric pulling, or the motor running without movement, stop immediately

❄️‼️ATTENTION ALL AUTOMATIC POOL COVER HOMEOWNERS:‼️❄️

Due to the higher-than-usual snowfall that is currently expected, the automatic cover manufacturer recommends that automatic covers be left fully open once snowfall begins. This is to help prevent excessive weight accumulation and to reduce the risk of damage to the cover system.

Additionally, all pools should be winterized by this time. If your pool has not yet been winterized, please ensure that your pool pump is currently running so your pipes and equipment do not freeze and crack.

We strongly recommend scheduling winterization as soon as possible to help prevent potential damage.
