The new Lettuce Patch Early Learning Center in Avon is all-electric and designed to keep operating costs down. The solar panels donated by Active Energies are expected to produce more than 72,000 kilowatt hours annually. A four-battery energy storage system, funded by the Town of Avon, is designed to run critical infrastructure independent of the grid in the event of a power outage.

The RA Nelson Green Team selected the Lettuce Patch Early Learning Center in Avon as a pilot project for our Construction Waste Diversion program. Our team and partners diverted more than 117,000 pounds of waste from the landfill, a 50 percent diversion rate. Concrete, metal, wood, cardboard, and co-mingled materials were recycled from the site and diverted from the landfill.

We closed on our second employee-housing unit: a condo in Carbondale! It's walking distance to our Carbondale office as well as to downtown. We are renting it below market rate to one of our employees. The lack of affordable employee housing is a major challenge to hiring and retaining staff in our mountain communities, so it feels good to make some progress!

The Lettuce Patch Early Learning Center will add space for about 165 kids, addressing a major shortage in local child care.

Eagle County Government flipped the switch yesterday on their new Geothermal cooling & heating system that uses the constant underground temperature off 55 degrees to transfer heat into buildings in winter and out of buildings in summer. The system will produce a 50% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030. We are very proud to be part of this project, and look forward to seeing more geothermal energy in our area in the future.

RA Nelson diverted 140,000 pounds of construction & demolition waste away from the local landfill in 2025, the equivalent of 23 pickup trucks. We are on track to double that number in 2026. We've been working with local partners like Trinity Recycling and Roll Off and Walking Mountains to educate our staff and improve our sustainability practices on the job site.
