New Roof Decking Installed During This Austin Roof Replacement
With the damaged and rotten wood removed, we now have a solid roof deck ready for the next stage of this Austin roof replacement.
This photo shows the new OSB roof decking installed across the areas where the original decking had deteriorated. During tear-off, we uncovered sections of wood that were soft, rotted, and no longer suitable for supporting a new roofing system. Instead of roofing over those problems, our crew removed the compromised material and rebuilt the deck where needed.
This step matters because roof decking provides the surface that the underlayment, flashing, and shingles are installed over. New shingles need a strong, properly secured surface underneath them so fasteners can hold correctly and the entire roofing system can perform as intended.
You can also see how carefully the new decking is fitted around the roof penetrations and existing ventilation. Everything needs to be solid and properly prepared before we begin installing the protective layers above it.
For homeowners considering a roof replacement in Austin, this is an important part of the process. A roof replacement is much more than putting new shingles on a house. The work underneath is what gives the finished roof a strong foundation and helps the new roofing system perform the way it should.
Next up: protecting the new roof deck with underlayment and preparing for shingle installation.
