Here’s a good example of a small roofing issue that homeowners usually cannot see from the ground.
This is a pipe boot vent with a hole in the rubber seal from age. Pipe boots are installed around plumbing vent pipes to help keep water out where the pipe comes through the roof. Over time, the rubber can dry out, crack, split, or separate — especially with Central Texas heat, UV exposure, wind, hail, and heavy rain.
When that happens, water can slip in around the vent pipe and cause roof leaks, attic moisture, ceiling stains, damaged insulation, or interior drywall repairs. The frustrating part is that the shingles around it may look “fine,” but the leak can still be active.
That’s why regular roof inspections matter. A worn pipe boot is usually much easier to address early than waiting until water shows up inside the home.
