A kitchen built for a professional chef with a passion for live-fire cooking at our Frio Cañon Retreat. Rather than concealing things behind traditional cabinets, we incorporated open shelving, a hanging pot rack, and an open island to keep things within easy reach. The island was designed on casters so it can roll onto the adjacent screened porch, creating a seamless connection for the kitchen and outdoor entertaining. And, what a view from the breakfast nook.

Some images by Mark on a site visit at our recently completed Frio Cañon residence. Frio Retreat was carefully sited to nestle into a steep grade change. The entry experience from the lawn is a low slung Hill Country cottage weaving around live oaks. The views from the back of the home showcase the river and canyon beyond, appearing to emerge from the rocky ravine.

Located in Frio Cañon, this home was conceived as a refined, modern take on classic Hill Country vernacular with the soul of a river cabin. A ridge skylight washes the space from above with natural light while open shelving and sliding doors dissolve the boundary between the interior and the outdoors.

Project Wellness was awarded a 2026 RED Award as a “Jewel Box Space” and it certainly is. Congratulations to our team and thank you Luxe Magazine for this honor. This home spa includes a western red cedar-clad dry sauna, a reeded glass-enclosed steam room, a custom cold plunge tub, and a hot and cold shower that pulls cool water from the plunge tub. A serene space for a lovely family to unwind and relax.
