The ceiling is one of the most underrated decisions in setting the tone of a space.
Clean coffered lines quiet a room down, stained wood plank warms it without closing it in, and exposed timber trusses with steel gusset plates open everything up and give it real weight. Our clients fell in love with a previous Sendero home and knew they wanted us to build theirs. From there, the goal was not to recreate what they had seen, but to use it as a starting point for something that felt true to them. The kitchen opening into the living space was one way we brought that vision to life.

The dark slatted ceiling does more than define the kitchen. It anchors the room, sets up the view, and pulls your eye forward to the lake beyond the glass. Below it, the plaster wall, waterfall island, and oak floors stay quiet. One material decision guides the whole experience.

Multiple seating areas were built into the plan from the start, spaced around the yard instead of clustered in one spot. Each one was placed for a different view and a different patch of shade at different times of day.
