🍂 FALL EDITION: Winter weeds like chickweed and annual bluegrass sprout once the weather cools. A pre-emergent put down on an established lawn in October stops them before they ever come up.

While you're out there this month, rake the leaves before they pile up and keep mowing at 2 to 3 inches.

The most important photo of your new lawn is the ugly one. 📸

The bare dirt, the patchy grass, the yard as it looks right now. That is your "before," and once the sod goes down you can't go back and take it. If new grass is going in this fall, take that photo today. After the install, stand in the same spot and take the "after."

Floratam, Raleigh, Palmetto or Texas Native? If you're in San Antonio, that's four St. Augustines and one real question. It has a simple answer. ☀️🌳

Count the hours of direct sun your yard gets on a clear day. That number does most of the choosing: full sun points to one, tree cover to another, and under 4 hours you're better off with a different grass entirely. All four are lush, wide-bladed St. Augustines. They just want different amounts of light.

Quick one: how much does a pallet of sod weigh? Up to 3,000 pounds. 🌱

That's a small adult bison or a large cow, in grass, soil, and roots — 450 square feet of it on one pallet. That's why it moves by forklift, why we deliver by the pallet, and why picking up a full one calls for a trailer or a heavy-duty truck with the payload to match.

Our Density Buffalo, 14 pallets of it, now covering a yard in Dripping Springs. 👀

This sod came from our farm, and Lawn Enforcement installed it for Tammy. They finished on a tight timeline and on budget. Full credit to their crew. 🙌

🌾 WHY DENSITY BUFFALO —
It's the native, low-input grass for open, sunny yards like this one. It needs little water once the roots are in, little mowing and little fertilizer. It needs full sun, 6+ hours a day.

Planning a new lawn while your city is on watering restrictions? Start with the water, not the grass. 💧

For its first two weeks, new sod needs a deep watering every day. Your sprinkler day covers one of those. The rest comes from a hand-held hose, which is allowed any day but takes real time, or from a variance, if your water provider grants one for your kind of project.

Down to one watering day a week? What you do on the other six matters more than you'd think. 💧

You can't add water under restrictions, so the job is losing less of it. Mowing height, clippings, the spots where water beads up and runs off, and the hour your sprinklers run all decide how much of that one watering reaches the roots.
