As we celebrate 50 years of design excellence, we’re spotlighting milestone projects that helped define our identity. JLL Plaza served as the final phase of a planned unit development that began more than 25 years earlier and emerged as a prominent gateway into downtown Austin.
The project evolved from a simple shell office into a sustainable, environmentally The eight-story, multi-tenant high-rise was planned to maximize density while creating a sense of campus within an urban setting. The first four floors provided 237 structured parking spaces, while levels five through eight delivered Class A office space.
Facing north, the glass façade—anchored by a strong masonry element—conveyed a sense of movement as people entered the Central Business District. Sustainability remained central to the design, earning the project LEED Gold® certification and the City of Austin Green Building Program’s BEST Innovation Award.
Fifty years in, projects like JLL Plaza reflected how thoughtful design evolved over time and helped make Austin more sustainable.
