From two separate thresholds to one gracious arrival.

By combining the former entrances to Units 1 and 2, Restructure Studio created a spacious, light-filled entry that gives the home room to breathe. The original arched door remains—a familiar detail reimagined within a welcoming new whole.

Experience the full transformation of Rutherford Place during the 2026 AIA Austin Homes Tour, October 24–25.

Next: the kitchen becomes the heart of the home.

Our very own Carina Coel redefines the term “Sustainable Architecture” to include not only designing thoughtful, environmentally responsible homes, but also building a profession in which women, creativity, leadership and family can thrive. We’re proud to see her vision recognized by the Austin Business Journal.

From restored architectural details to thoughtful new interventions, every decision at Rutherford Place was guided by a respect for the home’s past and a vision for how it could live beautifully today. Hear from the team about the ideas, craftsmanship and collaboration behind its next chapter.

Phase Two at Oak Haven: making room for a retreat.

The addition brings a new primary suite to the home, with a light-filled bedroom, spa-like bath, and a direct connection to the backyard and pool. A private escape that still feels right at home with what was already there.

Phase One at Oak Haven: rethinking the spaces that bring everyone together.

Warm wood, crisp white tile, and a more open connection to the living spaces gave this hardworking kitchen a fresh start—setting the stage for the addition still to come.

Ticket sales are now open for the 2026 AIA Austin Homes Tour!

We're excited to welcome visitors to **Rutherford Place**—a character-filled historic home in Austin's Travis Heights Historic District. Once a dark, compartmentalized triplex, this home has been thoughtfully transformed into a light-filled single-family residence that honors its historic character while embracing modern living.

We can't wait to share this project with you in person. See our link in bio to get your tickets, and come experience the transformation for yourself.

No caption could fully express the countless ways Carina Coel’s leadership has shaped Restructure Studio into the firm it is today—a place where women in architecture can find refuge, support, and space to thrive. A place where we are empowered to be mothers, partners, caregivers—and the architects and designers we are meant to be.
We are beyond proud to celebrate our founder and principal architect as a 2026 Austin Business Journal Women in Business Award winner. Carina, this honor is so deeply deserved. Thank you for showing us what leadership can look like. 💛
