Deep matte black slab cabinetry runs floor to ceiling with no visible hardware, dropped like a sculptural object into a classical Parisian salon of plaster moldings and gilded mirrors.

The island is where the audacity lives. A full waterfall of black veined marble wrapping the center of the room, treated as a monolith rather than a work surface — the entire kitchen reading as one considered intervention against the ornate architecture around it.

Old world room. New world kitchen. Neither one apologizing for the other.

Warm base cabinetry with slim bar pulls runs the island and the perimeter in a single continuous wood tone, grounding a room built almost entirely out of stone and plaster above.

The arched marble alcove framing the range is where the architecture takes over. A full slab wrapping the back wall, contained inside a plaster arch that treats the cooking zone like its own chapel — the cabinetry disciplined enough to let that moment stand entirely on its own.

Wood below. Stone and plaster above. Each one knowing exactly which half of the room belongs to it.

A freestanding island sits in the center of the room on exposed legs, built as a single long cabinet with drawers across the front and small brass handles threading through every one.

The decision to leave the island freestanding is the whole move. Rather than fitting it with a stone top or bolting it to the floor, the piece reads as a true piece of furniture — treating the center of the kitchen as a dining room table might, with air underneath and no visual anchor beyond the wood itself.

A kitchen that gives its center piece permission to be furniture is a kitchen that will never feel dated.

Warm walnut slab base cabinetry with no visible hardware runs beneath a dramatic violet-veined marble counter and backsplash, floating low against the classical paneled wall above.

The restraint above the cabinetry is the design decision. No uppers, no shelving, no attempt to fill the vertical plane — just original wall paneling, a sconce, and a single piece of art. The kitchen is given the lower third of the room and nothing more, letting the architecture of the apartment stay the architecture of the apartment.

Sometimes the best cabinetry decision is knowing when to stop.

Rich walnut slab base cabinetry runs the working wall letting the horizontal grain carry the entire wood story.

The emerald backsplash is the counterweight. Hand-glazed tile with real depth and tonal variation, saturated enough to hold its own against the warm walnut without ever competing for the room’s attention. Open walnut shelves float above it, continuing the wood vocabulary and framing the color between two bands of grain.

Deep wood. Saturated tile. Nothing in between either of them.

Cream cabinetry runs floor to ceiling along the back wall, with a full-height glass-front display cabinet stacked in two tiers as the centerpiece of the room.

The curved oak island is the counterweight. Warm slab fronts wrapping a softly radiused end, the wood grain doing all the work no hardware would ever be asked to. Two entirely different cabinet vocabularies — one architectural, one sculptural — sharing a room that gives each one exactly the space it needs.

Straight lines above. Curved lines below. The tension is the design.

Warm oak inset base cabinetry with brass pulls runs the working walls, paired with black upper cabinetry featuring brass mesh grille doors above the range.

The mesh grilles are the design decision. Rather than glass or solid panels, the woven brass turns the upper cabinetry into a moment of ornament — a traditional European detail that most modern builds skip entirely. The dramatic marble backsplash and the industrial pendant lights complete the vocabulary.

Soft painted inset perimeter cabinetry runs the working walls, framing an antique wood island on turned legs that reads as furniture rather than millwork.

The paneled hood is the room’s anchor. Built out of the same cabinetry vocabulary as the surrounding runs, it extends the millwork language up the wall rather than interrupting it — turning a functional element into an architectural one. Everything else in the room bends around its silhouette.

Old world island. New world discipline.
