If the hail hit hard enough to damage the solar panels, I’m checking the roof. 😳

And sure enough… there it was.

This is what hail damage on asphalt shingles can actually look like up close. It may not look dramatic from the ground, but a closer roof inspection can tell a different story.

We found the source of the roof leak. 🎯💧

In Part 1, I traced the water from inside the attic and narrowed down the suspected area. In Part 2, I went onto the roof and inspected that same location from the exterior.

That’s where we found an opening that could allow wind-driven rain into the roofing system.

Roof leaks aren’t always directly above where the water appears inside. That’s why a proper leak inspection involves tracing the water and inspecting both sides of the roof system.

One of the most common roof leak areas is around plumbing vent pipes.

In this video, I explain what a bullet boot is, what it does, and why it’s an important part of protecting your roof from water intrusion.

As roofs age, these components can crack, dry rot, and eventually allow water into the home if they aren’t replaced.

Incorrect nail placement can affect how shingles seal, hold during high winds, and perform over time — especially during severe Texas storms.

A lot of homeowners never get to see this side of roofing, so I try to document and explain parts of the process out in the field.
