Most restaurants hide where the pasta gets made. Funke put a 20-foot pasta lab in the middle of the room and built everything else around it.

The marble, the linen walls, the lighting, the terrace - all of it had to work inside a 1930s Art Deco building that was not going anywhere.

Come for the architecture. Stay for the pasta.

Modern houses have a reputation: great to look at, hard to sit in.

Building a museum is one thing. Building one that doubles as somebody's office is another.

Anish Kapoor-inspired mirror aluminum, poured-in-place terrazzo, Venetian plaster, and brass inlay. Four materials that forgive nothing, all meeting at the same seams.

Swipe through and look at the edges. That is where the work is.

Somebody on this project was not afraid of orange. Or yellow. We are very much into it.

Everywhere else, this 3,000-square-foot West Hollywood home plays it minimal: dark siding, warm wood floors, a lot of glass.

The color is what makes it feel like a home and not a rendering.

Six months. $3M. One Sierra Towers penthouse.

That is a tight timeline for 3,500 square feet of custom ebony millwork and integrated lighting, especially when everything has to come up by elevator.

The 270-degree view did not need any help from us. Everything else did.

Five thousand square feet is plenty of room to show off. Stonewall spends most of it on windows.

Nearly every major room opens straight onto the landscape, and the wood and stone inside are more than happy to play backup.

One of our favorite parts of the build process is finding room for those small, specific moments that only make sense to the family living there.

Because the final destination should look beautiful, obviously. It should also know who lives there.

In this West Hollywood high-rise, Indian rosewood wall paneling, solid stone, and brass inlays do what very good materials tend to do: make decoration feel unnecessary.

Quietly extravagant. Which is still extravagant.
