A fully custom curved staircase designed to follow the architecture of the home.

This project features sweeping curved stair runs, custom fabricated steel railing, a continuous curved handrail, and subtle brass accents throughout the balusters.

Every transition, radius, and connection had to work together to keep the finished staircase clean from every angle.

Curved work leaves no room for error, which is exactly why projects like this are some of our favorites!

For custom home builders, stair and railing work starts before installation day.

Opening dimensions, framing, material selections, structural requirements, finish details, and schedule timing all need to be considered early in the process.

When those details are aligned upfront, the finished stair or railing system can be installed with fewer surprises and a clearer path from plan to completion.

At 3 Cords, we work alongside builders, architects, designers, and other trades to help make that process smoother from the start.

Yes, floating staircases can be code-compliant when they are properly designed, engineered, and installed.

While the finished look is clean and minimal, the structure behind a floating staircase is anything but simple. Load requirements, tread layout, railing height, spacing, support, and local code considerations all play a role in the final system.

That is why experience matters.

At 3 Cords, we help bring floating staircase designs to life with the planning, fabrication, and installation expertise needed to support both the design intent and the structure of the home.

A custom railing system should feel like it belongs to the architecture.

For this project, every detail was considered to create a railing system that feels clean, cohesive, and built for the space.

From material selection to final installation, custom railings are where function, safety, and design come together.

This Labor Day, we’re recognizing the craftsmanship behind every finished stair and railing system.

From the shop to the jobsite, every detail is shaped by skilled hands.

Thank you to our team and to the tradespeople across Central Texas who help bring custom homes to life.

The finished staircase is only part of the story.

Before installation, there is planning, measuring, fabrication, material preparation, and quality control that shape the final result.

At 3 Cords, every stair and railing project is built around the details that most people never see but every project depends on. Alignment. Fit. Finish. Safety. Structural integrity.

That behind-the-scenes precision is what allows the final installation to feel seamless.

White oak or walnut? The right choice depends on the style of the home, the surrounding materials, and the overall design intent.

White oak offers a clean, natural look with subtle grain and warm undertones, making it a strong choice for modern, transitional, and Hill Country-inspired spaces.

Walnut brings a richer, deeper tone with more contrast, ideal for staircases designed to feel bold, elevated, and architectural.

Both materials can create a beautiful custom staircase. The best choice comes down to the desired finish, the amount of contrast in the space, and how the stair system supports the overall design of the home.

At 3 Cords, we help builders and homeowners navigate these decisions to choose materials that fit the space, the style, and the structure.

For custom home builders, stair and railing planning is not something to leave until the finish.

The best results start early, when framing, measurements, material selections, structural needs, and design intent can all be aligned before installation begins.

At 3 Cords, we regularly collaborate with builders, architects, and designers to help translate stair and railing plans into finished systems that fit the space, meet the vision, and support the construction schedule.

Bringing in the right stair and railing partner early can help reduce surprises later.

A great railing system should support the architecture without competing with the view.

For this Parade Home on Lake Belton, the exterior stair and railing package was designed to feel clean, intentional, and visually light. The upper covered patio is lined with thin fabricated steel railings, helping preserve the open sightlines toward the lake while adding a refined architectural edge.

The project also includes a matching exterior spiral staircase, creating ground-level access to the elevated third-floor patio while maintaining a cohesive look across the home’s exterior.

It is a great example of how custom steel work can bring together function, safety, and design intent in one finished system.

From concept to creation, every staircase starts with a vision.

Our process begins with understanding the space, the design goals, and the details that matter most. From there, our team works through material selections, measurements, fabrication, and installation to bring each custom stair or railing system to life.

The finished result may look seamless, but behind it is a process built on collaboration, precision, and craftsmanship at every stage.

Because when stairs and railings are designed well, they do more than connect levels, they elevate the entire space.
