“The design concept was to deeply embed the home into the hill, fostering a strong indoor and outdoor relationship. The thoughtfully designed backyard and play area is just a step off the terrace. As a father of three young kiddos myself, I understand the importance of outdoor play and exploration for young children. ”

This is where we work. The light filled space where ideas are tested, projects evolve, and the architecture exists in the space between concept and construction.

This is Breck Studio.

At midnight tonight, we’re welcoming a new chapter.

Every family begins the home-building journey with a vision—ideas filled with possibility, light, and intention. Our work is to honor that vision and guide it forward with clarity at every step.

The Breck Studio website relaunches at midnight, offering a deeper look into our work, our philosophy, and what it means to be Stewards of Vision.

“Before we design anything, we listen carefully to the land.”
- Breck Craparo, AIA

Site reconnaissance is where we walk the land, move through the trees, stop, look, listen, and take notes. We study and document topography, vegetation, breezes, sun, views, and patterns of arrival and movement by being fully present on the site. This is an immersive reading of place. Combined with our clients’ lifestyle goals, these firsthand observations shape the design concept, ensuring the architecture grows naturally from the land and works in quiet partnership with the landscape.

“The earliest concept sketches are where a home first begins to breathe. This simple drawing captures the initial intent for a low, horizontal residence that settles into the land with a wide protective roof and a clear, permanent grounded spine.”
- Breck Craparo, AIA

At the concept stage, it’s all about proportion, how the roof meets the sky, and the feeling of arrival. Even in its roughest form, the architecture starts to reveal how light will move through it, how the landscape will pull up close, and how the structure will ultimately shape the daily life of the people who call it home.

“As the architects, our job during construction is to make sure the vision holds, to guide and support the builder and trades as they bring it all together.”
- Breck Craparo, AIA

Today’s site walk was a reminder of why we do what we do—seeing design come to life, detail by detail. This project is moving beautifully, and collaboration between architect, builder, and owner is exactly what makes it all work.

Morning light pours through expansive glass panels, animating the textures of brick and plaster walls, natural stone tops, and wood cabinetry. The space is intentionally quite. It’s a space design to function as a kitchen, but also to evolve throughout the day—alive, dynamic, and deeply connected to the landscape.

”The form and every material and detail is selected to highlight light, frame views, and connect daily living with the surrounding environment.”
- Breck Craparo, AIA

Soft light from a clerestory window washes across the space, highlighting the warmth of natural wood and stone. A picture window frames the landscape like living art, blurring the boundary between indoors and out. The rich material palette—marble, oak, and textured brick—grounds the room in quiet elegance, while natural light shifts and animates every surface throughout the day.

“The home sits below the ridge, within the trees, as it steps down the hillside. Not on the hill, but rather, of the hill.”
- Breck Craparo, AIA

The glassy social spaces glow with warm light as they look out over the hillside and trees dropping off to a ravine. Brick, glass, and a bit of stucco compose the facade.
