Planning a home addition or detached building? Your electrical service might need an upgrade first.
We're taking you behind the scenes of a 320-amp electrical service upgrade, where our team is preparing a property to support increased electrical demand while keeping everything connected through a single meter.

Why would a homeowner need 320-amp service?

As properties grow, so do their electrical needs. Whether you're adding a guest house, workshop, pool, or other major addition, your existing electrical service may not have enough capacity to support everything safely.

A properly designed electrical service upgrade can help provide:

• Additional electrical capacity for home improvements
• Power distribution to detached structures
• Greater flexibility for future expansion
• A reliable electrical foundation for the property's needs

But there's more to this project than upgrading the electrical service.

Our team is also completing underground trenching, carefully navigating existing piping and utilities, and coordinating the work around the homeowner's schedule and budget.

Because quality electrical work isn't just about the finished installation. It's about planning ahead, protecting what's already there, and getting the details right.

If you were planning a major addition to your property, would your current electrical service have enough capacity?

When should you have your backup generator serviced?
The best answer is to follow your generator manufacturer’s maintenance schedule—but don’t wait until an outage to find out your system needs attention.

PowerMeans recently responded to an emergency after a utility pole was hit and power to the property went down. The property had a standby generator, but when it was needed, the generator didn’t kick on as expected.

That’s exactly why routine generator maintenance and testing matter.

Depending on your generator and how often it runs, maintenance may include:

• Checking oil and fluid levels
• Inspecting the battery and connections
• Changing the oil and filter at the recommended interval
• Checking for fuel or oil leaks
• Making sure the generator exercises and cycles properly
• Testing the overall backup power system

For many standby generators, there are maintenance items that should be addressed annually, with additional service based on run time and manufacturer recommendations.

Here in Central Texas, it’s especially smart to make sure your generator is ready before severe storm season, extreme summer heat, or other periods when outages become more likely.

Because the worst time to discover your backup generator isn’t working is when the power is already out.

When was the last time your generator was serviced and tested?

Save this as your reminder to check your backup power system before the next outage.

What tells your generator it's time to turn on when the power goes out?
That's where the automatic transfer switch comes in.

We're back in Bee Cave, where our team is installing a transfer switch as part of a generator backup system. This equipment communicates with the generator, helping tell it when to turn on and off while transferring the selected circuits from utility power to backup power.

For this project, we also routed new conduit across the facility to the transfer switch for the circuits that the generator will protect.

Why does this matter?

A backup generator is only part of the system. The transfer switch is what helps make backup power automatic, so when utility power is interrupted, the circuits you've chosen to protect can transition to generator power without relying on someone to manually make the switch.

For homes and businesses, that can mean keeping important systems powered when the grid isn't.

If your power went out tonight, which circuits would you want your generator to protect first?

Save this before planning your next backup power upgrade.

Sometimes what starts as routine work around a property can uncover a much bigger electrical issue.

We’re out between Driftwood and Dripping Springs, where an underground electrical line supplying a septic system had been damaged during previous work on the property. PowerMeans was called in to assess the situation and find the right long-term solution.

For this repair, our team is rerouting the electrical circuit, protecting it inside conduit, burying it at the proper depth, and bringing it back to the main service panel to help get the septic system safely up and running again.

Why does this matter?

A septic system relies on dependable electrical power to operate properly. Underground wiring also needs the right protection from moisture, excavation, landscaping, irrigation work, and other activity around the property.

When something underground gets damaged, what looks like a small problem can quickly turn into a much larger repair.

That’s why planning ahead and knowing what’s below the surface matters before starting work around your property.

If you were planning your next landscaping, irrigation, or excavation project, would you know what electrical infrastructure is underground?

Save this before your next outdoor project.

Sparking. Popping. Black residue around the junction box.
Those aren’t signs you want to ignore around an EV charger.

Our team responded to this Tesla charger electrical repair in Dripping Springs after discovering a serious problem with the outdoor electrical installation: the junction boxes had not been properly grounded.

The result? The boxes were sparking, melting wires and could have burned down the house!

PowerMeans stepped in to correct the grounding issue and install a new 50-amp GFCI breaker to provide the proper protection for the outdoor receptacle.

Why does grounding matter?

Grounding provides electricity with a safe path during an electrical fault. Without proper grounding, metal boxes and electrical equipment can become part of that fault path, creating the potential for shock, arcing, overheating, and fire.

And with an EV charger pulling a significant electrical load, proper installation isn't something you want to gamble on.

This is why having an EV charger installed correctly the first time matters. It's not just about whether your Tesla charges—it's about whether the electrical system supplying it is safe.

Would you know what to do if you heard popping or saw sparks around your EV charger?

If something doesn't look, sound, or smell right, don't ignore it.

What happens behind the walls before a commercial electrical project is ready for inspection?

We’re heading back to Redeemer Church in Dripping Springs, where our team was working through a full commercial electrical retrofit to prepare the facility for its next chapter.

At this stage of the project, we were installing lighting throughout the rafters, coordinating around the HVAC system, running MC cable, and completing one of the most important pieces of the job: terminating the electrical service panel.

Panel termination is where individual circuits are properly connected, grounded, organized, and prepared for safe power distribution throughout the building. Getting these connections right helps create a safer, more reliable system and makes future troubleshooting and maintenance easier.

With inspection approaching, every connection matters. Poor terminations or improperly grounded circuits can create safety concerns, delay inspections, and keep a commercial project from moving forward.

If your commercial building was being renovated, would you know whether the electrical system was ready for inspection?

At PowerMeans, we believe getting it done right matters just as much as getting it done on time.

REWIND: Back to Field of Dreams.

Some projects stick with you, and this was one of them.

We're taking it back to Field of Dreams in Henly, just outside Dripping Springs, where our team completed a major commercial electrical service panel upgrade to help get the ballfields powered back up and ready for the community.

The existing electrical service had reached the point where a full upgrade was the safest and most reliable solution. Our team installed a new service panel, worked overtime, and coordinated the project so the fields could get back to doing what they were built for—bringing athletes, families, and the community together.

Why is a commercial service panel upgrade important?

Your service panel is the heart of your electrical system. It distributes power throughout the facility and protects electrical equipment from overloads. As commercial properties grow or aging equipment begins to fail, an outdated panel can lead to:

• Limited electrical capacity
• Frequent breaker issues
• Increased downtime
• Safety concerns
• Difficulty supporting future expansion

A properly designed service upgrade provides safer, more reliable power while giving the facility room to grow for years to come.

Projects like this remind us that the work we do isn't just about electrical systems—it's about helping communities thrive.

Have you ever wondered how much infrastructure goes into keeping a sports complex running behind the scenes?

Or if your commercial property needed more electrical capacity tomorrow, would your current service panel be ready?

When your power means everything, call PowerMeans.

Throwback to one of our favorite community projects.

We're taking it back to Field of Dreams in Dripping Springs, where our team climbed more than 60 feet in the air to replace electrical feeders that had been powering the ballfield lights for more than 20 years.

Those aging feeders had brittle insulation and were experiencing voltage drop—two issues that can lead to dim lighting, flickering fixtures, reduced efficiency, and increased maintenance over time.

Instead of making temporary repairs, we upgraded the system with new copper feeders, helping provide:

• Brighter, more consistent field lighting
• Reduced voltage drop
• Improved electrical reliability
• Infrastructure built to serve the community for decades to come

Projects like this may happen behind the scenes, but they make a big difference when it's game time.

The next time the lights come on at Field of Dreams, they'll be backed by an electrical system built for the future.

If your sports complex, commercial property, or facility still has decades-old electrical infrastructure, would you know the warning signs that it's time for an upgrade?

Can your solar panels power your home during an outage? The answer depends on if you have power to back it up. Do you have a battery, and is it hooked up properly?

We're back in Dripping Springs, working on a solar system featuring Tesla Powerwalls and a solar array. This is effectively a microgrid.

Many homeowners assume that if they have solar panels, they'll automatically have electricity when the grid goes down. In reality, that's not the case without backup power.

Here's how this system works:

• Solar panels capture sunlight and generate electricity through a process called the photoelectric effect.
• The inverter converts that energy into usable power for your home, Alternating Current (AC).
• Tesla Powerwalls store excess energy for later use.
• During a power outage, the system safely disconnects from the utility grid and powers your home using stored battery energy.

Why is that last step important?

Without properly isolating the home from the utility, electricity could backfeed onto power lines, creating a dangerous situation for utility crews working to restore power.

A professionally designed solar and battery backup system helps provide:

- Reliable backup power during outages
- A lower cost per kilowatt hour, yes, cheaper electricity!
- Utilize clean and renewable energy source
- Greater energy independence for your home

If the power went out tonight, would your home stay powered?

When a new commercial building needs power, every day counts.
Our team recently responded to a fast-track commercial electrical project for a Health and Human Services office, where a new building needed 3-phase electrical service on a tight timeline.

To make it happen, we:
• Cut through existing concrete to create a new electrical pathway
• Installed underground conduit and trenching
• Pulled new 3-phase electrical service
• Coordinated the project to keep construction moving forward

Why is 3-phase power important?

Unlike standard residential power, 3-phase electrical systems are designed to handle larger electrical loads more efficiently. They're commonly used in commercial buildings because they provide reliable power for HVAC systems, commercial equipment, elevators, lighting systems, and other high-demand electrical applications.

Without the proper electrical infrastructure, new facilities can experience construction delays, equipment limitations, and challenges supporting future expansion.

For projects like this, the goal isn't just getting the lights on—it's delivering dependable power so organizations can continue serving their communities.

If your business needed additional electrical capacity tomorrow, would your current electrical service be ready?
