In the winter your plants can be a tasty snack for deer. To prevent this you can place deer resistant shrubs such as some types of junipers around the border of your landscapes.

The third thing that affects bushes in the winter is the wind. Some bushes like Juniper and dogwood are wind resistant, but boxwoods can get burned by the winter wind.

Salting can be detrimental to plants during the winter. In fact we design landscaping with the winter in mind, and try to avoid putting plants where large amounts of salt may potentially be spread. If you do your own salting, make sure to avoid spreading any salt on your plants or lawn if possible.

As winter approaches many people trim their shrubs. But did you know that timing is key? If trimmed to close to winter the bush may not have enough time to heal. We recommend evergreen trimming be done in August or early September to prevent brown ends forming on your shrubs in the winter.
