The old deck held a grill and two chairs. That was about it.

Now it runs the entire left end of the house — and it has a roof.

This Parker project started as a small second-story deck off the sliding doors. Fine for stepping outside. Useless for actually hosting anybody, and unusable half the day once the afternoon sun came around.

So we did both things at once. We expanded the deck across the full length of that end of the home, then built a covered structure over it, tied into the existing roofline so it reads as original construction instead of an addition.

Wood posts and railing on the new section. Finished ceiling with recessed can lights and an outdoor fan, because shade without airflow is just a warm box. The existing stair run down to the patio stayed right where it was.

Same house. Several times the usable outdoor space.

A roof gets you through August. The fireplace is what gets you through October. 🔥

This covered deck has a cedar accent wall, a linear electric fireplace, a mounted TV and a fan overhead — so it works at 95 degrees in July and at 45 degrees on a Broncos Sunday.

The wiring for all of it went in while the wall was open. That's the part people don't think about until it's too late: run the circuits during the build, not after, or you're looking at surface conduit on a brand new cedar wall.

Electricians, carpenters and roofers are all in-house here, so the fan, the TV circuit and the fireplace get planned into the framing from day one.

Insured to $2 million, and no money down — you pay when the work is done.

What would you put on that wall — a TV, or just the fire? Call Paul at (303) 730-9642 for a free on-site estimate. 🔨

TimberTech, Fiberon, Deckorators — after 40 years of installing all three, here's the honest difference. 🪵

They are all capped composite. They will all outlast a wood deck in Colorado. Where they split is how they're built and what you're paying for.

TimberTech Prime+ and the Dark Cocoa and Coconut Husk colors hold their look under high-altitude UV about as well as anything we install. Deep, consistent grain. It's usually the pick when the deck is the view.

Fiberon Good Life — Bungalow, Tuscan Villa — gives you a warmer, more natural board at a friendlier number. A lot of our two-story rebuilds land here.

Deckorators Summit is the one to know about for surface grip. Mineral-based core, more dimensionally stable in our swings from 20° to 90°, and it doesn't get slick.

The truth nobody selling decking will tell you: the framing under it matters more than the brand on top. 🔨

Footings at frost depth. Proper drainage. Correct span. That's what decides whether you're happy in year twelve.

Since 1984. No money down. ✅

The white paint was doing a lot of work on this Westminster deck. Under it, the framing was done. 🔨

Old 4x4 posts, a stair run that wouldn't pass an inspection today, and firewood stacked underneath where water sat all winter.

We tore it down to dirt and rebuilt it. New footings at frost depth, laminated cedar posts, Deckorators Summit Cliffside composite decking, black metal railing, and a new stair run down to the concrete patio with a real landing.

Same backyard. No more scraping and repainting every spring.

Building in this climate since 1984, and no money down — you don't pay until it's finished and you're happy with it.

This house had a hundred-mile view and nowhere to sit and look at it.

Out on the Parker–Elizabeth line, the back of the property opens onto open prairie. The only outdoor space was a small covered porch and a set of stairs.

So we ran the deck the full length of the back of the house, turned the corner, and carried it all the way down the side to the garage.

Deckorators Summit Cliffside decking. TimberTech black Fulton powder-coated railing with a matching deck-board top cap. White capped composite Trex fascia, matched to the siding so the deck reads as part of the house.

Out here there's no windbreak and no shade. Composite was the only sensible answer.

Out here the wind and UV are brutal on wood. Composite was the only sensible answer.

The old deck was painted white, and it had been repainted so many times the boards underneath were mush.

That's the point where patching stops making sense. Paint hides rot in Colorado — freeze-thaw gets into every check and split in a board, and a coat of paint seals the water in instead of keeping it out.

We tore the whole thing out and rebuilt it as a low ground-level composite deck. Black metal railing, a wide step down into the yard, and no more sanding and repainting every other spring.

Same footprint. Completely different life expectancy.

40+ years building in this climate, since 1984. No money down — you don't pay a dime until it's finished and you're happy with it. 🔨

Second-Story Deck + Dry Space Underneath — Aurora, CO

Denver Decks just wrapped a custom second-story deck build in Aurora, Colorado. The homeowners had an aging wood deck with lattice skirting and an unusable, always-damp area underneath. We rebuilt it top to bottom.

The new deck is TimberTech Coconut Husk composite decking with Sea Salt gray fascia and black TimberTech Fulton metal railing, plus a full stair run down to grade.

The space under a second-story deck is usually a wasteland. Not in this Aurora backyard.

We built a custom second-story deck with a full stair run in TimberTech Coconut Husk decking and Sea Salt gray fascia, wrapped in black TimberTech Fulton metal railing. But the part you can't see from the street is the part the homeowners will love most — a minimal-pitch roof drainage system underneath with a finished ceiling. Rain hits the deck up top and gets carried off before it ever reaches the space below. That's a dry, usable room under there, permanently. Not a tarp. Not a patch job.

We finished it off with a new premium gray concrete patio, medium broom finish, so the whole lower level actually functions.

Family-owned and building Front Range decks since 1984. No money down to start, 2-year workmanship warranty, $2M liability insurance.
