⛈ IR vs. Non-IR Shingles: Does It Really Make a Difference?

In Colorado, hail is a fact of life, but not all roofing materials respond to it the same way.

Impact-Resistant (IR) shingles are specifically designed to better withstand hail impacts than standard, non-IR shingles. They can still be damaged by severe hail, but they generally provide an extra level of protection when the next storm rolls through.

And that's important here in Colorado.

A standard shingle may sustain more significant impact damage, while an IR-rated shingle may be better equipped to handle the same storm.

👉 IR doesn't mean hail-proof. It means better impact resistance.

Colorado weather can bring hail, wind, heavy rain, and plenty of sunshine... sometimes all within the same day!

If you've had a strong storm in your area, take a few minutes to look around your home for signs of damage. Check your gutters, look for chipped paint or dented and broken window trim, keep an eye out for shingle pieces or roofing debris in your yard, and watch for anything unusual on your roof.
