The Tom Young Center for Research and Innovation is a three-story, 38,000-square-foot facility in Aiken, South Carolina, designed to support research, education, collaboration and community use.
Allen+Batchelor was brought onto the project early as Construction Manager, giving our team the opportunity to work alongside the City of Aiken, Aiken Corporation and the design team throughout preconstruction. That early collaboration allowed us to help manage the budget and schedule, coordinate constructability, and assemble the right team of trade partners well before work was underway in the field.
That effort carried through construction. Our team worked closely with the designers and trade partners to resolve complex coordination issues before they reached installation, while continuing to look for ways to protect the design intent, control cost and deliver additional value to the owner.
The result: a project completed AHEAD OF SCHEDULE and UNDER BUDGET, with savings that allowed additional scope and improvements to be incorporated into the finished facility.
We’re proud of the building, but even more proud of the team behind it. Projects like this are the result of strong partnerships — with the owner, design team, our field and project-management teams, and the many trade partners whose craftsmanship is evident throughout the building.
Thank you to the City of Aiken, South Carolina Government, Aiken Corporation , and Cheatham Fletcher Scott Architects + Designers for trusting our team with such an important project for the Aiken community.
