Good design doesn't stop at the front door.

We're not just thinking about how a landscape feels to walk through. We're thinking about how it looks from the kitchen window. From the breakfast table. From the coffee spot.

This view came from inside the house. A landscape that lures you outside in the thick of a Georgia summer was designed with every angle in mind, including the ones you never leave the couch to see.

We started designs for this potager (vegetable garden) in 2022. This week we got to see it doing exactly what a garden should do in the Dog Days.

The okra is towering, the pollinators are working overtime, and the owners were happy to share some of their summer harvest. Spencer, of course, had to test the design for himself.

This is a part of the job we love, not the design process itself, but the years after, when a garden settles in and becomes a living and vital part of a client's life.

Three plants that wait ALL summer for their moment, and it's right now. ☀️

Rudbeckia triloba: smaller blooms than 'Goldstrum,' but the finches don't care. They shred the seed heads all season long.
Rudbeckia hirta ('Green Eyed Susan'): towers to 6 feet with deeply lobed leaves that earn their keep in the border long before they flower.
Ginger Lily: gardenia-white blooms, zero white fly drama, and a fragrance that fills an entire room from one cut stem.

None of these ask to be babied. They just show up when it's hottest and do their thing.
