At Boutte Tree we believe in the power of trees to transform the urban environment and make it aesthetically pleasing. Trees are able to this because they can provide more foliage, shade, and natural beauty per square foot of real estate than any other plant or landscape can do. In a city like Atlanta land is a valuable commodity and should never be wasted. When compared to landscaped areas, trees are more magnificent, offer shade, require less maintenance, and are permanent fixtures that become part of the fabric of our city. Landscaped areas are small, decorative, expensive to maintain, and being decorations do not become part of a city but merely adorn it. (This is not true of all landscaped areas, but it is usually true of landscaped portions of the streetscape)

Stump removal is one of the most commonly skipped steps after a tree comes down, and in Metro Atlanta's warm, humid climate it's one of the most consequential ones to overlook.

Decaying stumps attract termites, carpenter ants, and wood-boring beetles. These insects don't stay confined to the stump: they move into nearby wood structures, fences, and in some cases the framing of adjacent homes. Atlanta's mild winters mean pest populations don't get naturally reduced the way they do in colder climates, making stump management more important here than in many other regions.

Fungal root rot is the other concern. If the removed tree carried any fungal disease, the root system connected to the stump can continue spreading infection to healthy trees growing nearby, especially during Atlanta's warm and wet summer months.

Pruning is not a single service. Structural pruning and aesthetic pruning accomplish different things, and a tree that receives only one over its lifetime can develop significant problems that aren't visible until they become costly.

Structural pruning focuses on the tree's long-term architecture: removing co-dominant stems with included bark, establishing appropriate growth patterns while a tree is young and correctable, and managing limb weight distribution to reduce future hazard risk. Aesthetic pruning addresses appearance, clearance, and the visual relationship between the tree and its surroundings. Both types have legitimate purposes, but the wrong approach, repeated over multiple years, creates weaknesses that are difficult and sometimes impossible to undo.

Many trees in metro Atlanta are growing in root zones compromised by clay soil, surface compaction, and a history of construction. The effects often appear gradually: thinning canopy, slowed growth, increased pest susceptibility, and a general decline that can be mistaken for normal aging.

Deep root fertilization is a core service in Boutte Tree's Plant Health Care program. Using pressurized injection, our arborists deliver nutrients, oxygen, and beneficial compounds directly into the root zone, past compacted surface soil, and into the area where feeder roots can actually absorb them. The injection process also helps fracture compacted soil and improve water infiltration around the treatment points.
