Tongue in cheek or ….. Tongue in chic?

Design should have a sense of humor and delighting the viewer is part of the job. The ancient Roman architect, Vitruvius, summed it up nicely when he said good design should have “firmness, commodity and delight”. These fun accessories we saw at the Moschino boutique in Rome make that point perfectly. Who wouldn’t want to bring that puppy dog purse home?

An invitation from Ralph!

More reporting from Milan today. We were lucky enough to receive an invitation to take a guided tour of the Ralph Lauren Palazzo that has been styled and open to select designers. Ralph Lauren bought this building several decades ago and completely renovated everything for both his personal residence but also as a stage for runway shows and design meetings. After all, Milan is one of the great fashion capitals of Europe and hosts fashion weeks as well as home and commercial design weeks during the year. For this week, the walls were completely redone with new paneling, flooring and furnished with the newest collection for display. Our guide and associate with Ralph Lauren, Max, was wonderfully attentive and gave us the full story on the leather, the fabrics and the careful fabrication of everything we saw and it was both an informative and magical visit to this beautiful palazzo.

I dreamed a dream….

That this was my kitchen! I’m here at Eurocucina in Milan and this gorgeous space by Officine Gullo alone was worth the plane ticket. Absolutely beautiful cabinets and attention to every detail. Unlimited colors as well not to mention custom colors Alessia with Officine Gullo walked us through all of the options and we hope we can see this dream come true someday.

Centerfold worthy!

Just out on your newsstands!! Southern Home magazine features a home recently completed for us on the coast of Florida and brings a bit of Palm Beach to the Panhandle. We were so lucky to have a strong contingent of design collaborators on this team and wonderful clients who were dedicated to the vision. Audrey Newsom as the Interior Designer, Matthew Quinn and Design Galleria on kitchen and specialty millwork, and Paul Fontenot of Garden Design Solutions contributed their amazing talents to this home.

Our office designed the new home over 14 years earlier for a different client and when the house changed hands we were called back in for extensive renovations. Stairs were move, walls pushed out, larger windows installed but the original had pretty good bones (of course). A refresh of the front and entry door area brought the home into the present day but also managed to keep it classic. Stay tuned for more photos in the future but grab your April-May issue of Southern Home now.
