A movie industry veteran tasked us with transforming their aging deck and privacy wall into a sleek, modern space using Ipe wood. They desired a minimalist look, so we streamlined the design, removing non-essentials like the old built-in seating. The 20′ x 16′ Ipe deck required no railings due to its height and included two staircases: a 12′ wide set to the backyard and a 4′ wide set leading to the driveway.

We sourced from a local importer, premium 1×6 Ipe boards locally and incorporated a picture frame edge around the deck. A feature board bisected the deck, distinguishing the main stairs. Stainless steel fasteners and Ipe plugs created a refined look on the framing, feature board, stairs, and fascia.

To achieve a “disappearing” look beneath, we used drop beam construction, allowing horizontal skirting set 2′ back, painted in “Dragon’s Breath.” The custom 8′ privacy wall, crafted with alternating 1×6 and 1×4 Ipe boards, flows with a seamless horizontal line. Posts were painted to match for a unified finish. The different planes of the wall, added additional depth.

Upon request, we later added 1×8 Ipe risers to the stairs, delivering an exceptional outdoor extension, worthy of a Hollywood pro.

This past weekend we had the pleasure to work with scouts from Troop 797. As part of an Eagle Scout project, the scouts worked with the Kennesaw Mountain maintenance division to build a new composite decking deck.

Kelly Crow of Go To Guy Home Services was onsite to lend professional deck building advice and encouragement to the hardworking scouts as they constructed this large deck.

With materials donated by Decorators brand decking, and supplied by TimberTown Atlanta, the dedicated scouts showed their dedication to public service and hard work!

Transformation Story from Go To Guy Home Services LLC in Morningside, GA

We revisited a previous deck repair customer who was ready for a major change. Their old deck was a battleground of maintenance - rotting wood, safety concerns, you name it.

Their request? A low-maintenance deck that frees up time and space. They also wanted to downsize the deck to give their kids more backyard play area.

Our solution? A rebuild with Trex Enhance Natural composite deck boards in Toasted Sand – a choice that marries aesthetics with low maintenance. Complementing this, we added a new powder-coated aluminum railing system, ensuring durability and ease of care.

But, as often happens in our line of work, we uncovered more. Significant damage to the siding and structure appeared once the old deck was out of the way. Our response? An economical yet robust repair plan, designed to last another century.

Recent Project from Go To Guy Home Services LLC:

We recently completed a unique deck in the Morningside neighborhood of Atlanta, GA, that doubles as a carport. The challenge? It had to fit the original footprint of the existing deck.

Our solution involved using pressure-treated LVL (laminated veneer lumber) beams for longer spans and fewer posts. This design choice allowed us to cantilever the deck, creating enough clearance for cars to pass underneath without interference from the support posts.

For the decking, we went with durable pressure-treated wood. The railing is a hybrid design, combining pressure-treated lumber with powder-coated aluminum balusters, offering both strength and style. We added a gate to keep the new puppy safe and secure!

Big Transformation Alert from Go To Guy Home Services LLC!

We recently took on a project that was both a challenge and a delight in the Virginia Highlands, GA neighborhood. A customer came to us with an old, unsafe deck - think rusty nails and the sheer force of gravity holding it together!

Their wish? A low-maintenance, durable deck that can brave the elements and last for decades. And we delivered just that!

We chose the Trex Enhance Basic deck boards in a sleek Pebble Grey, known for their durability and minimal upkeep. To complement these boards, we installed powder-coated aluminum railings, adding both safety and style.

While working on a deck replacement for a 1920's bungalow, we discovered some unexpected challenges. The original deck, installed about 30 years ago, had caused damage to the home's framing and siding.

Our team took the time to thoroughly repair these issues, ensuring the structural integrity of this charming old house was restored.

The new deck we installed is low-maintenance and built to last. It's designed to be the final deck this homeowner will need, a durable and reliable addition to their historic home.
