Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

It is a day to reflect on freedom, resilience, and progress while recognizing an enduring truth: rights and opportunities are most meaningful when people can truly access them.

History reminds us that progress is rarely automatic. It requires intentional action to expand opportunity, remove barriers, and create pathways for people to participate, contribute, and succeed.

First Place Build Georgia Award Winner: Piedmont Cancer Institute Johns Creek

It's not déjà vu - this is our second Piedmont Cancer Institute project to earn a First Place Build Georgia Award from AGC Georgia.

The newest Piedmont Cancer Institute Johns Creek location is a 10,200-SF outpatient oncology center designed to support consultations, infusion therapy, and highly specialized pharmaceutical compounding.

The space includes private exam rooms for one-on-one care, an infusion area accommodating patients and their families, and a compounding pharmacy built to meet stringent clean-room and hazardous material requirements. Leapley Construction delivered precision environmental controls, pressure-monitored rooms, and carefully coordinated MEP systems within an occupied medical building without interrupting ongoing patient care.

This First Place recognition honors the planning, coordination, and technical expertise required to deliver complex healthcare environments in occupied buildings without disruption to neighboring operations.

First Place Build Georgia Award Winner: NELSON

When one of the country's leading architecture and design firms builds its own office, expectations are understandably high.

Located in West Midtown's Star Metals Building, NELSON's 5,350-SF office features curved glass partitions, custom millwork, polished concrete floors, exposed systems, and thoughtfully designed collaborative spaces.

Leapley Construction delivered the modern office space on time, under budget, and with zero recordable safety incidents. Achieving that outcome required thoughtful planning, precise ex*****on, and seamless collaboration among the many team members involved in making this project a success.

No build is too small to have a big impact.

Two years ago, Founders Park was a parking lot.

On Saturday, it was filled with music, families, artists, neighbors, and a brand-new Tiny Door.

That’s what thoughtful community investment can do.

We’re proud to be part of the ongoing revitalization of South Downtown alongside the team at South Downtown Atlanta. Through projects like ATV Sylvan, the ongoing transformation of H.L. Green, and now our sponsorship of the newest Tiny Doors ATL installation, we’ve had a front-row seat to the creation of something bigger than buildings.

At the Summer Kickoff Party in Founders Park, South Downtown - ATL CEO Jon Birdsong talked about creating a sense of place. Looking around at the crowds enjoying the park, the local businesses, the public art, and the community gathering together, it was easy to see exactly what he meant.

As Atlanta welcomes the world this summer, it’s exciting to see the continued investment in the area where Atlanta began - and where it’s going.

First Place Build Georgia Award Winner: ATV Sylvan

There's something special about helping build up your hometown to show it off to the world.

Originally constructed in 1908 as part of Atlanta's historic Hotel Row District, The Sylvan has witnessed more than a century of the city's evolution. Today, it is helping shape Atlanta's future as the newest home of Atlanta Tech Village in South Downtown.

Transforming a 117-year-old landmark into a modern hub for entrepreneurs and innovators required extensive structural remediation, preservation of historic elements, and creative problem-solving. This First Place Build Georgia Award recognizes the craftsmanship, collaboration, and expertise required to bring new life to one of Atlanta's historic treasures.

Thank you to Alton, Grant, Elizabeth, the teams at South Downtown - ATL and Gensler, and our outstanding trade partners for helping make this transformation possible. Together, we're proud to be part of the continued growth of Downtown Atlanta.

Few things in this world bring people together quite like good food and friendly competition.

Last week, a group of Leapley teammates converged on The Cook's Warehouse for a Moroccan cooking challenge. Decked out in our custom Leapley aprons, we strategized, chopped, sharpened our knife skills, and shared more laughs than you would expect on a regular weekday afternoon.

The food was incredible. The company was even better.

We're grateful to Meredith Leapley for making experiences like this a priority, and for creating opportunities to support other women-owned businesses while connecting with one another through new experiences.

We spend a lot of time working together, but it's pretty special getting to spend time together like this too.

First Place Build Georgia Award Winner: Piedmont Walton MRI Replacement

Healthcare construction leaves no room for error, especially when the project is located directly adjacent to an active Emergency Department that sees more than 50,000 patients each year.

Without impacting emergency services or patient care, Leapley Construction created a temporary exterior opening to remove and replace a critical MRI unit, installed specialized RF shielding and supporting infrastructure, and expanded the patient waiting area at Piedmont Walton Hospital. The result was a technically complex renovation and equipment upgrade delivered safely, efficiently, and without interruption to critical healthcare services.

This First Place recognition honors the challenges of meticulously planned healthcare construction, where every decision must balance technical requirements, patient safety, infection control, and the demands of a facility that never stops serving patients.
