Before summer settles in for good, we took advantage of a perfect spring afternoon for our annual Spring Fling employee event. No presentations. No formal agenda. Just good food, cold drinks, and time together away from the jobsite and the office.

We’ve welcomed a lot of new teammates over the past year, and events like this matter more than people realize. The relationships built over casual conversations and shared laughs are often the same ones that strengthen communication, trust, and collaboration when projects get challenging.

A great company culture doesn’t happen accidentally. Sometimes it starts with a nice day, a patio, and a chance to connect.

Some people help build a company, and some become part of its foundation.

Over plenty of laughter and more than a few tears, we celebrated the retirements of Michelle Strickland and Charlie Carter alongside teammates, family, and friends.

We spent the afternoon sharing favorite memories, watching tribute videos, enjoying lunch and cake, and posing with Freddie the Falcon, Michelle's favorite Dirty Bird.

While Leapley was only one chapter in their long and accomplished careers, both have been part of our story since the very beginning in 1999 — helping shape the culture, relationships, and foundation of this company along the way.

The office is definitely quieter without Michelle’s singing and joyful laugh… and somehow also louder without Charlie’s famously soft-spoken presence.

We love you both dearly. Thank you for everything you gave to this team, this company, our clients, and this community over the past 27 years. The legacy you leave at Leapley Construction is enduring, and the impact you made here will be felt for years to come.

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer - and a reminder to pay attention to changing conditions on site. For construction teams, that means rising temperatures and increased heat risk.

As the season changes, staying hydrated, recognizing signs of heat stress, and looking out for each other become even more critical.

Say hello to our new interns!

This summer, 11 interns representing four universities are gaining hands-on experience across some of our most complex projects in our corporate interiors, higher education, healthcare, science and technology, and commercial markets.

Three are returning for a second internship with Leapley - proof that we are creating meaningful learning experiences for these future builders.

We’re excited to see how this group grows over the next few months, the perspectives they bring to the table, and the questions that challenge us to think differently. The best internship programs aren’t one-way learning experiences. While they learn from us, we expect to learn from them too.

Welcome to the team, Tristan, Winnie, Diana, Shayan, Wilson, Jason, Caleb, and TJ, and welcome back, Ethan, Ivan, and Kyle.

We’re wrapping up National Hospital Week by recognizing a few of the incredible members of our healthcare team who help make these projects successful every day.

Leapley Construction has proudly partnered with Piedmont Atlanta Hospital since 2018, delivering complex projects in active healthcare environments with a focus on safety, communication, and operational excellence. Ben and Jimmy have spent the majority of their time at Leapley supporting projects on Piedmont’s campus, building strong relationships and helping ensure each project is completed with the care and attention that healthcare spaces demand.

We’re grateful for their dedication and proud of the impact our team continues to make across the Piedmont campus.

“It’s not a competition — but it is. For the very best reason.”

Leave it to our own Heather Rich to not only surpass her original fundraising goal of $25,000, but blow past it and earn a spot in the top 10 fundraisers of her Inspire Atlanta class. Adding $40,014 to the record-breaking class total of $800,000, Heather ended her four-month journey making a considerable impact in the lives of women and girls across metro Atlanta.

We don’t throw this around lightly - but we are genuinely in awe of her results, her advocacy, and her full commitment to this experience. The Atlanta Women's Foundation holds a special place in our hearts at Leapley, and seeing 32 women rally our community around its mission the way this class did makes that even more meaningful.

Congratulations to Heather and every member of the 2026 Inspire Atlanta Class on their record-breaking success.

Motherhood looks a little different to everyone.

To all the moms, bonus moms, mother figures, grand moms, pet moms, everyone missing their mom, cool aunts, friend group moms, and those hoping to be moms: we see you. However you acknowledge Mother's Day, we hope it is a peaceful one.

What's wrong with this picture?

From a cuteness standpoint, absolutely nothing.

From a safety standpoint: his PPE doesn't fit, he’s too close to heavy machinery without a spotter, and those rubber shoes are not OSHA compliant in the slightest.

The good news: correcting someone never has to be awkward. A quick "hey, let’s get you the right PPE for this site” is one of the most important interactions you can initiate in construction. It protects the person in front of you and signals to everyone watching that safety isn't optional; it's the standard. It also normalizes speaking up when something doesn’t look right.

Safety culture is built one conversation at a time. The next generation is always watching. Be someone worth learning from.

We asked General Superintendent Kenny Sears what decisions made in the office actually impact safety in the field. His answer gets into something most people never think about.

Every hole cut in a roof needs a cover. Every floor opening needs a guardrail. Every time conditions change — water intrusion, new penetrations, shifting work areas — those protections have to be moved, rebuilt, or replaced. That labor adds up, and it doesn’t always make it into the original scope.

Kenny walks a fine line: the budget doesn't always account for how many times a safety measure has to be redone throughout the life of a project. But at Leapley, that's not a reason to skip it; it's a cost of doing the work right.

The companies that get it wrong either spend too much protecting against things that don't need it, or not enough on the things that do. Getting that balance right starts on day one, when someone is actually thinking through the full build sequence, not just the first phase.
