Maroon Bells

Maroon Bells The mountains are a colorful painting, every stroke of paint on the canvas is there with a purpose to leave a person’s eyes locked on and obsessed.

The closest thing to a real life painting you will ever see lies at Maroon Bells in Aspen, Colorado. These cascading red rocks seem to pierce the green vegetation below it in a beautiful orchestration of colors. Just below the Bells is a crystal clear, turquoise lake that reflects the mountains on it. For the adventure of a lifetime, take a trip to The Bells to experience the art that nature is first hand.

MUST KNOWS!!!!

• Trails:
Take a deep breath and smell the herbal aroma of the anise plant (smells like liquorice) as you take various hikes like Maroon Lake Scenic Hike, Maroon Creek Trail, and Crater Lake Trail. They range from novice to difficult but are worth every step you take. The trails are like ribbons, wrapping around the beautiful Bells, not to mention, they are horse friendly so bring the big fellers.

• Camping:
At the banks of Maroon Creek lies a campground called Silver Bells. Hugging the campgrounds is an aspen grove that turns bright yellow in the fall. There are 14 campsites which mean plenty of spots to house the adventurous. These are walk-to sites so be prepared for more hiking. Take precautions and bring all the essential camping supplies needed. To see a map visit https://www.stayaspensnowmass.com/activities/visit-maroon-bells.

• Transportation:
Maroon Bells is 10 miles west of Aspen, Colorado. You can only take a car up before 8am and after 5pm for a $10 vehicle fee. It is very limited in order to maintain a less polluted ecosystem which calls for the natural cool breeze to touch your skin and birds to sing before global warming can get to it. Buses can take you up between those times for a $5 pass per person.

• What am I getting myself into:
The Bells are 14ners which mean they are above 14,163ft high with a starting elevation of about 9,500ft. Do not let these numbers fool you because before you know it, you will be lost in the gracefulness of nature.
