Big progress continues in Sunbury!
Summer brought significant milestones for the City of Sunbury, Ohio's Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion & Improvement Project. From major structural work to equipment upgrades, crews are advancing in several areas throughout the site to support the expanded treatment capacity and improve operations.
Here’s a look at what has happened since March:
- Clarifier #3: Excavation is complete for the nearly 30-foot-deep structure, which spans almost 100 feet at its widest point. Shoring is installed along the west side.
- Digester #4: Taken out of service for conversion to a new UV and post-aeration tank, the final treatment stage before wastewater leaves the plant.
- Digester upgrades: New air piping has been installed in all existing digesters.
- Flocculation and coagulation tanks: Concrete and rebar work is complete. Equipment and aluminum platforms remain.
- Tertiary building: Masonry, concrete, and structural steel are complete, with the membrane roof and interior equipment remaining.
- Backfill complete around the tertiary filter building, tertiary drain and pump stations, and new Digesters #4 and #5.
- Sludge transfer basement pumps and grinders are installed.
- Solids handling: A new screw press has replaced the old unit, more than doubling its output.
- Operations building addition: Concrete, structural steel, and roofing are complete.
From significant excavation and structural construction to equipment upgrades that are already delivering increased output, each milestone moves this project closer to completion.
